A rural primary school in the Howardian Hills is set to close after pupil numbers dwindled to zero

The school is part of a federation with St Hilda’s School in Ampleforth seven miles away.

“Prior to Mrs Moore’s arrival, pupil numbers at Hovingham School had fallen during the school year and since the start of the current term no children have attended.

That is bad news for a lovely village school Very sad.

The demographics of rural areas have changed across large parts of the country. Losing the school will surely take the heart out of the village, but if there are very few children and parents have chosen to send them elsewhere the school has no future. A shame, but inevitable.
