Rotten Tomatoes rescues Captain Marvel from review trolls

Rotten Tomatoes is fighting back against online trolls. The reviews aggregator site announced that it will prevent users from commenting on a film before its release date, after a recent barrage of negative online comments targeting the forthcoming Captain Marvel film. Rotten Tomatoes’ move came as it cited an “uptick in non-constructive input, sometimes bordering on trolling”.

It really was just a measure of the Hype to see the movie, not a review. If the movie is good the reviews won’t matter, people will see it. But shutting off this feature won’t magically make people go spend money to see it. Now It just spread people anger onto Rotten Tomatoes.

I'm amazed at how many outlets are getting this on. They aren't reviews. There used to be a function that allowed users to express if they want to see the film or not. It was a percentage with 'want to see' underneath it.

I have bor seen the film, but I think I am safe in saying it will be visually glossy, reasonably entertaining froth. Anyone reading anything deep of political into a film based on a comic should probably go for a lie down.

How is a fan backlash after her comments 'trolling'? If we substitute the words 'white' with 'black' and 'males' for 'women', her words would have been considered abhorrent hate speech. And rightly so. Its hardly the critics fault that a certain group is more largely represented.

There are no reviews yet, that headline is a lie. Before release you could only comment on your interest in seeing it.

Good for Rotten Tomatoes! Snowflakes bothered by Larson's remarks have earned their time out. And people who would review a film based on its star's comments about critics, rather than on the substance and craft of the movie itself, don't belong in the aggregate score.

If you don't realize RottenTomatoes has been gamed by the studios through strategic critic payolla, you're a sucker and I have a bridge to sell you.
