United States international Turner spent six years with MLS side New England Revolution and was responsible for one of the great viral clips as he took out Rooney during a clash between DC United and Revolution.
The move started with a long, diagonal ball from a DC United defender that was played in-behind the New England defence and right into the path of Rooney. With Rooney taking the ball down 18 yards from goal, Turner came steaming out of his area and earned a straight red card for wiping out the former England captain with a flying knee.
It was a shocking challenge that left Rooney dazed and the Everton and Manchester United legend clutching his shoulder, later admitting the collision felt like ‘being in a car crash’.
