Romina Ashrafi: outcry in Iran over so-called 'honour killing' of 14-year-old girl

Iran’s president has called for swift action to outlaw so-called “honour killings” after the death of a 14-year-old Iranian girl allegedly at the hands of her father prompted a nationwide outcry.

But all cultures are beautiful and it’s racist to hold other nations to our western standards. Right?

Why do we continue to refer (in English) to these horrific murders as anything to do with 'honour'?

Tragic that something like this can still happen, even in a Uncivilized country like Iran.

I find it disconcerting that the highlight of your story is not the innocent young girl, but the ineffectual president whose dogmatic ideology helps perpetuate honor killings in the first place! Playing your political games at the expense of an innocent little girl? Wow!

This is unbelievable. According to their 'law' he was allowed to execute her. I wonder if the mother is alright with it? I heard of another case where the mother orchestrated the slaughter.

I don’t know what is scarier that she was beheaded by her own dad while sleeping or that her “boyfriend” was 34 years old.
