Roger Federer reminded us why Centre Court will forever be his kingdom — but what does the future hold? CDEccleshare on Federer's investments, charity work, family focus and... role as a Coldplay support act.

To be in Centre Court on Tuesday afternoon was to be reminded that for all we obsess over things like grand-slam titles won, there are other ways to measure greatness.

There’ll surely never be a champion as popular at Wimbledon. It’s not just the record-breaking eight men’s singles titles, it’s the way in which he speaks so much to how Wimbledon thinks of itself — graceful, artistic, the best.In pure titles terms, Federer is no longer the best. In the grand-slam race, he now trails behind both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal and his record haul at Wimbledon will likely be equalled by Djokovic a week on Sunday.

Tuesday was that kind of day for Federer, whose main commitment currently seems to be to living his best life. On Saturday, he went to an Elton John concert in Zurich, he was then on stage with Coldplay playing the shaker at their concert in the same city the following night, before the most wholesome of interviews with fellow Wimbledon institution Sue Barker on Monday, followed by Tuesday’s love-in on Centre Court.

Federer is also an investor in the Swiss running shoe brand On, which signed up women’s world No 1 Iga Swiatek earlier this year. He also has a number of commitments with various sponsors — like attending events and filming commercials – from the more high-end, such as Mercedes-Benz and Rolex, to ones like Uniqlo and satellite navigation software Waze.

But he has not signed up for any punditry or coaching — the two most common gigs for prominent players. Federer would consider a spot of commentary, saying in September that: “Commentating the odd match, I guess I could imagine it.”There were then reports in February that Federer was in talks to commentate for the BBC at this year’s Wimbledon.
