Rodri reveals he was meant to take Manchester City’s stoppage-time penalty against Fulham, not Erling Haaland MCFC

Rordi told talkSPORT he was meant to take the penalty, but gave it to Haaland instead – and he didn’t let the team downMan City 2-1 Fulham LIVE REACTION: Ten-man City claim win thanks to late Haaland goalFernandes 'right to call out Garnacho' to help ensure he isn't another Ravel Morrison'Angry' Liverpool boss Klopp hits out at media in passionate rant on Qatar World...

However, he’s the perfect man to have on the pitch when you’re given a penalty to win the game in stoppage-time, and he made no mistake, even though goalkeeper Bernd Leno probably should have kept it out.“I was going to take the responsibility of the penalty, but I saw him and I think these guys are prepared for these situations, that’s why I gave him the ball,” the City star told the station after the game.“He’s a killer and he needed three touches to score three goals.

“I wanted also to give him some confidence after coming back [from injury], so yeah, he’s a massive player for us.” Haaland gave a typically short reply when asked for his response to Leno almost saving his spot kick, telling the press: “I don’t care.”But he later admitted stepping forward to seal a late three points to lift Man City to the top of the Premier League table was one of the most nervous moments of his career.

After scoring his 18th Premier League goal in 12 appearances, Haaland said: “It’s Fantastic. I was nervous [for the penalty]. It was one of the most nervous moments of my life, but fantastic. “I love it. I have been injured for a week and it is really important to win.”
