Leeds United had this play-off semi-final with Norwich City won long before full-time. It gave Daniel Farke and the stadium space to breathe, to take in what was going on and make smart decisions.
Farke tries to include the groundsmen We haven’t seen much of it in an underwhelming conclusion to the regular season, but Farke was able to dig out his post-match arm raises on Thursday night. As he approached the Don Revie Stand, not only did he have the apple of everyone’s eye, Archie Gray, by his side, but the club’s ground staff were there too.
Even at 0-0, in the opening minutes, Ethan Ampadu and Junior Firpo could be seen looking at the Jack Charlton Stand with their arms pumping, asking for more. A few minutes later, after a rare clearing header from his own box, Georginio Rutter was almost galloping at the John Charles Stand as he asked for a reaction, a roar.
After the game, he led a huddle in the middle of the pitch, surrounded by players and staff en masse. ‘One more big job’ he told them. The captain is focused and has led this team all season, even without a key role on the pitch.
