Villagers have shared their concerns after congestion built up due to roadworks in the area. On Monday, July 3, there were queues of traffic in both directions at Gunthorpe Bridge on the A6097 due to roadworks.
Retired Jean Julyan, 75, of Gunthorpe said: "We went to Carlton this morning and we passed the roadworks down here near the roundabout and here, there were roadworks on the bridge. It's always a problem getting out of Gunthorpe as the road is quite fast and it's difficult to get out at the best of times.
He said: "It's going to be terrible." Speaking about going into Nottingham, Phil explained it can already be "difficult" turning onto the road, and to get to Nottingham there is not many options. He explained that avoiding the roadworks takes him an additional 15 minutes each way, and if he visits three times a week this adds up to an extra hour and half of driving.
