“The ‘vote blue, go green’ was something David Cameron did to win over the environmental issue to the Conservative Party.His comments came after COP26 President Alok Sharma, who was recently demoted from the Cabinet by Mr Sunak, expressed his “disappointment” at the PM’s COP27 snub., Mr Sharma said while he understood Mr Sunak had a “huge in-tray” of issues to deal with at home, he added: “But I would say that going to Cop27 would allow for engagement with other world leaders.

Mr Sunak’s stance has come under further scrutiny after US President Joe Biden confirmed he would be attending the conference, as did the French President Emmanuel Macron.understands that foreign allies are perplexed by the Prime Minister’s decision not to attend, given the advances the UK secured against the odds in Glasgow last year, and particularly as the UK still holds the presidency.

The King is now expected to hold a climate reception on Friday at Buckingham Palace that will be attended by US climate envoy John Kerry and Mr Sunak will “say a few words”. Housing Secretary Michael Gove said the Government would “want to field the strongest possible team at COP27 but there are strong pressures on the Prime Minister’s diary”.

RichardVaughan1 I don’t get it 🤷🏼‍♀️To talk about climate crisis , all leaders should fly to a place , spending time , money and fuel . Why can’t it send a message to all leaders to avoid flying and to recommend zooming ?
