This comes on the heels of a summer exams fiasco where thousands of students had their results downgraded

Schools in England are set to hold ‘rigorous’ mock exams this winter as part of a ‘plan B’ in case coronavirus disrupts testing for a second year., the mock results will then be used to assess a student’s grade if Covid-19 outbreaks impact their ability to sit the final exam or prepare for it.

Hamid Patel, chief executive of the Star academies trust, warned that ‘high-stakes assessments’ could create more challenges for students and said the process would need to be ‘carefully thought out’.

'Plan B' for rigorous mock exams to avoid rerun of A-level fiascoExclusive: Gavin Williamson to announce 2021 exam delay in England and back-up plan in event of Covid disruption It's a shame that we don't have an exam system based more on coursework. We used to but it was deemed too easy by the Conservatives All sounds great - apart from it still does not address the issue of lost learning and lack of technology - particularly WiFi - in many homes. I hate to tell Gavin this but schools plan their year in detail and have already timetabled in mock exams based on when they're covering particular content - it's almost like this is the sort of thing we should've been planning six months ago.
