VIRGIN Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson has warned the future of his airline hangs in the balance unless it receives a multi-million pound government bailout.chief is thought to be asking for a £500million loan funded by public cash to help keep the airline alive.Credit: AFP or licensorssaid he was prepared to put his private Caribbean island Necker up as collateral to save the business.
The post from Sir Richard, who is estimated to be worth £3.8billion, says Virgin Group "will do everything we can" to keep the airline going. Sir Richard continues: "But we will need government support to achieve that in the face of the severe uncertainty surrounding travel today and not knowing how long the planes will be grounded for.
"This would be in the form of a commercial loan - it wouldn't be free money and the airline would pay it back .Virgin Atlantic is in need of a taxpayer-funded bailout to keep it afloat"The reality of this unprecedented crisis is that many airlines around the world need government support and many have already received it."
Sir Richard goes on to claim he'll raise "as much money" as possible against Necker island, the tax-free British Virgin Island he lives on with wife Joan, to save jobs across Virgin Atlantic. It's now said to be worth around £80million.
Sell your Island mate!!!!!! 🖕
Very good 🖕🖕🖕
he has £500million. so prop it up himself.
500 millions. What a joke!
I might go bust if the government don’t hand me 10 million also🤷🏿♂️
Thats not our problem
Boohoohoo what a shame
You screw over the NHS, this is payback.
JamesCook06 But he doesn’t pay any tax in the UK.. so why should he get a bailout from UK tax payers....🤷🏻♂️
He has his own cash to use
Why is someone his age , who is a billionaire, even be arsed about trying to make money. If I had 0.005% of what that man has in the bank , I wouldn’t do another days work in my life and wouldn’t live anywhere that was having a winter .
Maybe Richard could use some of his own money?
Guess they’re going bust then !!
doesn’t he own a bank?
After all the years of plenty. It’s up to you now
Thomas cook!! Why is this different?
I’ll take a guess they were in trouble before anybody even heard of Coronavirus. His stinking attitude would put people off using his airline.
Fu.k him. Let him sell his private island to keep it going
Awww he needs to sell his private island to save people's jobs but he won't. Selfish man.
Someone else will buy it and employ the staff someone should tell Richard when you die you can’t take your money with you
Surely you can do it yourself
Mr Branson an EU fanatic who did everything he could to try and keep the UK in the EU, should remember, in the transition period we are still bound by EU lawd, which means state aid to failing companies is not permitted by the EU. Sorry Richard, next year the Govt could help.
Aah bless him. It must be really worrying only being worth £4bn.
So be it, he should have thought about such repercussions when suing the NHS and ultimately the British tax payer who fund it, farewell MISTER Branson.
And
Tough! Should have been better financed and managed!
Pay back nhs money and back taxes that he has never payed
Better get your cheque book out then greedy bollocks
If it goes bust then it goes bust. Other companies will move in and take it's useful assets and staff. I understand the abnormality of these times but companies should gave protected themselves against such downturns.
Ask the government of the county your bassed in for help not the one you avoid tax ....
Good. Let's hope The Sun goes the same way.
Greedy ass. Asking government for money when he has plenty money already. Spend some of it. Or he will wait for it to go bust and buy it back for nothing from the liquidators.
He's worth £4.4b so he should be OK.
Best sell you island then 🌴
Richard Branson won’t come out of this very popular. He always seemed a decent guy. Recently he’s shown how greedy he is. Same with Tim Martin. No one was surprised about Mike Ashley, though. Everyone knows he’s a greedy shit.
colateral usally means something the same value or more than money wanted, so that is daft
Who cares? Greedy twat!😎
Hate to see any business go to the wall but no way should richardbranson be bailed out by the emergency fund. It’s under enough stess.
Can always put some of that money in what he got when he sued the nhs.
Absaloute nugget if this was a war we’re they were dropping nuclear ☢️ weapons u wouldn’t get a bail out not much of a loss if u go bust , as other new business will start up, so Thomas cook never got one and u shouldn’t either u clown 🤡 of a man 🦠🤧😷🤔

Sell your island then Mr money bags.
Oh well! I’m sure he could always return to the U.K. and do some volunteer work!
Sayonara.
We will all just fly British_Airways instead 😬
If you owe the bank £500,000 then YOU have got a problem. If you owe the bank £500,000,000 then the BANK has got a problem.

He could bail himself out from his petty cash. Come on Richard, don’t be a dafty

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Easy Jet it appears has a greater God as an owner, more prudent, that will survive for the greater good of his work force. Alas Virgin UK maybe a busted flush.
Greedy b******
Never in the field of human conflict has `la EU phew'[ needed to be sacrificed for the greater good. The guy wanted to be ruled by a foreign power the EU & lost. Alas the Guy is now a menace to Brit democracy.
