The world is awash with low-end headphones but few companies are up to the challenge of a showdown with the ubiquitous Apple Airpods Pro. One of those to pick up the gauntlet is JLab, which has just launched its most fancy earbuds ever - the JLab Epic Lab Edition.
The buds themselves come in a nice dark grey and are chunky yet dinky enough - coming complete with different-sized ear tips. I went for the smallest ones and found they reliably stayed in the ear but I never was sure I got a tight enough fit. Maybe an even smaller tip would have done the trick. The buds sit in the case via a very strong magnet. In fact, it's so string sometimes you can struggle to get them out! Both the earbuds and case feel robust and come with an IP55 ingress protection which means they're not afraid of a little dust or moisture.
That's a lot of technobabble but what I can tell you is they sound great. The Knowles Curve is a little too delicate for my tastes but with the excellent JLab app you can boost the bass or change the equaliser settings to whatever you prefer. The Epics also have ANC and it's... OK. Not the best but certainly not the worst I've tried. You also get a 'be aware' mode so you can still be aware of your surroundings.
