Capcom has added microtransactions to the Resident Evil 4 remake. The new Exclusive Upgrade Tickets let players pay real money to upgrade their weapons quicker.

The free Mercenaries mode DLC is added to the game today, but it’s also been accompanied by 11 new pieces of paid DLC called ‘Exclusive Upgrade Tickets’, each letting players speed up the upgrade process.

“To gun enthusiasts, knife collectors, and lovers of weapons of any and all kinds,” the DLC description reads, “here’s your ticket to the gun show! Specifically a ticket to be redeemed at the Merchant’s shop. “With this, you’ll have access to a weapon’s exclusive upgrade at any time, regardless of the weapon’s level. Not only that, but once unlocked, the upgrade itself is free of charge!“This item will be added to the Treasures menu and will be available across all of your saved data.”

Each upgrade ticket costs $2.99 / £2.49 and there are also a number of multipacks letting players buy three or five tickets at a discount. In total, if players were to buy everything, they would get 23 upgrade tickets at a total cost of $55.89 / £46.05.Also released today is The Mercenaries, a fan favouriteResident Evil 4 remake sales hit 4 million as free Mercenaries DLC launchesThe Mercenaries consists of a number of stages. It's just the Microsoft strategy - pay to win...

Ah, so they waited to add microtransactions after the review period? This is a despicable practice.

Lol

the way that these modern audience are so blind to defend this kind of stuff its incredible...a reason that this franchise becomed so mediocre and cash grab because of these new devs... The old Re devs knew his fanbase and what they wanted the most, these DLC are unjustified...

Even if the microtransactions aren't intrusive, still, adding these later after the positive reviews are in feels like: ugh...

So? Does this impact anyone

how are you guys agreeing ? we had cheat codes before those worked well or idk just options in the game you could change stuff but PAYING for it

Yuk..

Is that PC Joel?

It's depressing how some people are trying to justify making games worse.

I’m personally whatever with this especially since re 2, re 3, re7, and re8 did it as well. Those apparently unlocked everything in the extra shop which I feel like is higher than this and nobody said anything about those.

Do those upgrades work for all saves or just for one save?

literally every single capcom game has this stuff so why are we crying about it now? 7 had the coins 8 had the trauma pack/access voucher, 2 had outfits and keys and stuff, 3 had the same stuff as 2 outfits and keys, so why is it now suddenly a problem, its a singleplayer game

P2W on a singleplayer game is crazy

Gross, I can not support games with this garbage idc if it's optional it shouldn't exist period.

So who’s going to complain about this like they did with GT7? No one, oh yeah because it’s not a Sony exclusive

Who cares and if you're worried your platinum trophy won't mean as much then you need to get outside a bit.

S+ Speedrun with the Chicago sweeper here we come

Damn don't need it no more tho, lol it was so late that I finished S+ Pro Run, I could have upgraded my Chicago sweeper at the very start of that Run with this addon instead of completing quests from the merchant before chapter 7.

Or just play the game and collect treasure.

I'm gonna still wait and see if they drop an unlock key dlc like they did for the last 3 before I buy anything

Is it just me or does this game look blurry as hell on ps5? No other game is this blurry in 4k

Sorry I've never paid mtx and I never Intend to

Nooooo not you too capcom nooo

This is pathetic, they are already charging more for a shorter remake of an old game but they waited a few weeks to add pay to progress micro transactions. This automatically drops any rating this game should receive. Just adding more fuel to the fire at this point

don't they always have these? like a buy all unlocks type DLC who cares if its a single player game

Keep it real if you ain’t got the time to grind I get it I wouldn’t do it hey it’s yo cash

That’s just sad, but that’s the day and age we live in now.

SKizzleAXE

Well it's good I unlocked all the achievements before this so no one can accuse me of using that.

yeah but these mfs were doing it since Nero was born sooo.... why take issue now? you're almost 15 years too late lmao

This will make a first run on professional so much easier

Let's see if gamers keep that same energy. User score of GT7 was destroyed because they didn't include the MTX until after launch. Everything is attainable through play and dlc free with updates just playing GT7.

For the single player stuff? Who cares

Getting the story dlc too?

They just want to kill the hype, huh. games like dmc and RE used to replayed alot because you want to unlock all the upgrade and then replay it on higher difficulty.but eh,maybe japan company need money so bad, squareenix also recycling their old catalogue recently for quick bucks.

People got over it with DMC5 they’ll get over it here too. It’s lame but it is what it is. Doesn’t detract anything from the game for me personally.

They did the same with DMC5's red orbs and honestly you don't even need to buy them. Difference here is those MTX were available at launch and the game still got rave reviews. I mean, they could have just been holding onto it for mercenaries specifically so people don't buy early

I’m fine with it if people want to waste money instead of enjoying the game ahah

I fully upgraded my handgun with no issues, and even spent money upgrading earlier weapons by mistake, and I still getting enough treasures and coin to fix my mistakes. 😌

It’s easy to level up your guns in the game and can play new game plus go get more tickets. They should rework the charm system and make it easier to get all of them

Logisch, dass die erst die Empfehlung von gebauer_jochen und KGN_Gezwitscher abgewartet haben…

Swear these 'time saver' things haven't been in games since bf3 days more fake outrage for the week

Eh, not multilayer, not gacha, not an issue. But why not just play on easy? Seems odd.

One ticket lasts every single save and just gets the exclusive upgrade on a weapon. You can’t spend money to upgrade guns. The same ticket is in the game and you can get two per play-through easy.

No mms

not a fan of this

So far haven't most the remakes and 7/8 offered some sort of payed cheat your way through? I know I was drunk one night and bought coins along with the digital game making sure I got all dlc and such for 7.

This is a non issue as: 1- it's a single player game so you aren't loosing a competitive edge to the whales. And 2- you are just accelerating a system not locking it behind a pay wall. They only are a problem when the effectively gatekeep gameplay

microtransactions don't belong in paid games this is pathetic

Well not getting this game anymore lol

people are mad at this when it's completly optional

Just dont buy them then? It doesnt affect player experience whatsoever

This is fucked up

Nothing new

Booooooo

One of the rare cases where micro transactions are a W. I’d rather waste money than waste my time.

L And such a stupid L too.

Banger!!!

As long as it's upgrade tickets, I'm fine with it. I'm sure they'll probably add the bonus weapons and items as MTX later, since RE2 and RE3 allowed you to buy them shortly after the game launched.

capcom: we feel as if we are not making enough money from you Rub... uh I mean valued customers...

lol nope I’m fine.

At this point every game has it. Not much of a surprise.

I don’t see how people can defend this. Yes they are optional, but they shouldn’t exist period. Microtransactions in a single player game are nothing but greedy. If it was some free to play online shooter (RE Verse) then it might be different.

If you don't want to progress by yourself then don't play the fucking game and go do something else

Waww, optional micro transactions in a perfectly balanced 10/10 single player game, wawwwww....

At that point, I'd just suggest cheating to get the upgrade tickets, if you can't be arsed to get the cash for the upgrades in-game

Wasn’t it like this with 2 and 3 remake?

Gross

Oh no..... 🥱

Every recent RE game has had a 5 dollar DLC that unlocks everything so it makes sense

They've been in every remake

Even if optional, I will always call this type of bs out. Just like in Dead Space 3. Shame on you Capcom.

so everybody’s fine with this, but everyone hates ubisoft for doing that 😂🤣😂🤣

I never understood microtransactions in single player games?

JayDubcity16 WHAT’R BUYIN?!?

At least it's not NFT's

It's fine

You don’t need to buy them so it effects nothing

I think the reason why this is being seen as “more acceptable” is that the game itself isn’t cranked up to a point where it feels like you are getting forced to buy the tickets. Still. This is yet another example of “avoiding MT mentions in reviews” by adding them weeks later.

This kind of stuff is pretty shitty in general. Not the mtx themselves but more so the adding after the game has been reviewed. Wonder if this would have any impact on the scores. Games good regardless.

People forgot that RE2R and RE3R also had microtransactions. Nobody talked about them because they were basically nothing. Of course RE4R will get the attention since it's a bigger game.

They got me. 5 tickets for 10. I'm happy. Red 9 now shotgun levels. Popping plagas.

Great option but no need to hide it before reviews and should have been added from the jump.

I’m waiting for all the unlockables in the shop

Wouldn't these only work when you upgrade the gun to that point? Where the option to 'upgrade further' pops up?

They list these on Steam as 'DLC' rather than in-app purchases or microtransactions. Shouldn't be allowed. It's neither downloadable OR content...

This was a last time I bought a game in launch window. I thought this game wouldn't have any. I hate it so much they can just add shite after the fact.

Love it

I bought one for Chicago Sweeper to help me get the S+ lol, holy sheet it was hard

I get it it's not cool, but you get so much money in the game that upgrading weapons is not a problem at all, it would have been different if i felt they intentionally didn't give me enough money to upgraded but they do a lot.

Y’all complaining about micro transactions in these comments and didn’t even read it’s not something needed to be brought you buy em or don’t so please shut up

As long as they don't patch the progression to suddenly take way more grinding etc. we're cool.

L but people simping this game hard. Watch them praise it

Well its not multiplayer so im not mad honestly

Why? Why included this when the game just broke millions of sales, was this planned from the start if they weren't clear if re4 remake was gonna be a hit? Or did they just intended to add it because video game policy rule in marketing

Feels slightly off knowing EA of all people didn't even include Microtransactions in the Dead Space remake.

This shouldn't be here even if it's optional. People defending it or using it are the problem.

Optional micro transactions are fine. It becomes a problem when it completely defines the game design. Like with alot of mobile games or certain live service games.

This sort of thing is only bad if you're playing multiplayer of the game was designed in such a way you can't complete the game without paying. Not the case with RE4

Skill issue just use cheats instead of paying for it. Dumb as hell

Pretty harmless MTX overall, but sneaking P2W mechanics after release is always a dick move.

I guess I'm okay with those. Because the base game progression of upgrading your weapons feels fair. AC:Odyssey had similar microtransactions to boost xp gain but the base game felt detuned and overly long. The xp boost made it feel 'normal' and that's wrong.

WeMod is literally free if you’re THAT desperate for weapon tickets. Save your money :)

Honestly this are the most useless micro transactions after the DMC red Orbs. You can get millions after replaying the game multiple times. And even worse after you unlock the bonus wapons and infinite ammo in game.

Of course they would wait till all the good messages and reviews were out

imagine dismantling one of your core game mechanics for money bro, whether it's optional or not is irrelevant, the point is capcom designed this mechanic of you obtaining money in game to upgrade your weapons and then gave you a shortcut to skip the fuggin thing lol

Don't buy them? It's a single player game, it's not like any multiplayer advantage can be gained so these could be in all games for all I care, I won't buy them. Capcom games have had mtx like this for years and my enjoyment of their games haven't been affected one bit.

this is like an IQ test. buy it = sub 90 IQ by default.

Take my money Capcom

Not a problem… I like how capcom does their micro transactions with the RE games.

Greedy!😡

Nothing new at all.

If there is an option to pay for convenience then it was intentionally made inconvenient. This is bullshit, and it should not exist, especially in single player games you pay full price for.

My stance on this remains the same as it did on GT7…it’s justified. They’re optional and the game can be completed without it easily…they didn’t have it at launch, because then people would of ragged on it for the “Optional” MTX as if it’s the whole game…

Lmao as if people really need this 🤣

Smart to add this after the review period. Also pretty dastardly!

People can just ignore it, I know some adults who don't have the time to grind the game as hard as some people.

C’mon Capcom. That’s just bullshit. You were doing great. Everything about the game was perfect. Now you screwed it up. I mean reviewers can also “update” their review.

They've literally done this with past remakes too like re2remake and re3remake lmao yall just finding out about this? 😂

People excuse this because It’S oPtIoNaL but melt down over Diablo 4 having a battle pass that only gives out cosmetics. Just lmao

They need add Bunny Suit Outfit for ashley 😁

pay to beat the game

A lot of folk jump on this like 'don't buy them then , dummy' not realising the impact this sort of thing has on people with ADHD and addictive personalities. Sure they are 'optional', but theres a group out there that won't see it that way, and will feel the need to buy these.

Nothing wrong with making money

lmfao nothing is safe

Some of these comments go to show they never played devil may cry games but it’s whatever cause it not necessary if you are not rushing through the game.

it remembers red orbs that you can pay in DMC5. Is it so difficult to upgrade your weapons in RE:4 remake that you need this tickets ?

It’s healthy but capcom is still cheap af

I’ll keep grinding over actual cash payments but TETO (to each their own)!

Dead Space Resident Evil

Almost perfect game...

dead space 3 vibes not good

The people complaining about this don’t play Capcom games because they’ve been doing this since DMC4. Just ignore it and play the game.

Capcom being capcom

It's optional but bloody hell what a waste of money 😂

As if getting 1000g/Platinum trophy wasn't easy enough...

Wonziu szansa dla Ciebie 🫠

i share the sentiment but i feel they are as useless as the orbs in DMC 5. Makes it kind of questionable who even buys those.

Micro transactions don’t hit the same with the game fire on launch. Especially if it’s optional. But hey it’s a banger headline to chat about .

Cmon capcom I had more respect for you.. And adding them later...

No different than the red orbs for DMC5. The microtransactions are pointless, you’d be paying to not play the game you just paid for.

The exclusive upgrades are kinda meh tbh

Optional MTX for those wanting to skip the grind or having issues unlocking stuff. Nothing wrong with that.

I see no problems with it. It is completely optional you can complete the game without it.

How to get better scores: 1. No microtransactions on launch. 2. Microtransaction update just after launch. 3. Profit.

Completely optional given its difficulty and time needed to unlock certain things. So it gets a pass. It is not like Valhalla with artificial grind, everything is easily upgradeable if you do it right.

Good. Not a think piece. Next.

i dont mind it, its optional and gives the option to progress faster if wanted, if not play free and progress at a normal pace.

haven't they done this for like the last 4 RE games?

Lol
