Boris Johnson is to warn parents that keeping children at home is a far greater threat to their wellbeing than coronavirus, the Sunday Times reports. The paper says the prime minister has ordered a PR campaign to ensure schools reopen on time in September after being presented evidence that personal and social harm to children is more persuasive to parents than fears about pupils falling behind academically.
But a former government chief scientific adviser has predicted the UK could be heading for full lockdown by the end of the month, the Sunday Mirror reports. Sir David King told the paper the UK needed an effective test and trace system by September, otherwise schools opening fully again would “put us right back”."Pubs on last orders" is the front-page headline on the Sunday People.
Imagine. A teenager is forced to go back to school and catches the coronavirus. She goes home and infects parents or grandparents. One of them dies or suffers severe complications. Imagine. How will that child live with that feeling of guilt. Forever.
We need a plan. Use community centres and libraries, which are sitting empty, to dramatically reduce class sizes. More teaching assistants would be needed to supervise and teachers would need to teach some of these classes online. Much easier to contain infection.
But the unions say NO!!
MSM setting up a battle.
Boris clinging onto every straw to move the blame away from him, Cummings, Hancock etc. If we had a competent Government that had provided strong leadership throughout the pandemic we would not be in this position. Do not blame the teachers!
National Priority- Boris and his merry band of men... don’t have a clue. The priority changes weekly, daily, by the hour and nothing works (PPE Testing Track &Trace Re opening Re lockdown Immigration Travel Don’t travel ... etc etc)...what a joke
It absolutely should be the next priority, presumably those complaining about it, aren't going out anywhere what so ever, because if they are, their comments are hypocritical, im sure no child's parent is going to the pub either, where social distancing is non existent
I can’t believe this is debatable. Reopening schools is a priority. End of. If other sectors of the economy need to be shut (and financially supported) to ensure children are able to go to school then fine. I’m shocked “pubs or schools” is even a question.
I agree in part that children should be able to see each other BUT re-opening schools is not a 'priority'. Perhaps smaller groups, with same staff, on alternate days? So group 1 children and allocated staff on Mon & Tues in their allocated rooms (if possible?)
Tabloids priorities are backwards as always. Acting like drinking is more important than schools.
Except another lockdown by the end of this month.
Propaganda
if anyone believes the return to schools will cause a massive spread of coronavirus dont let your kids be part of it
'Childrens education must be priority'...What he really means is, 'The tax payer needs 'nannies' to get the economy rolling so chuck the kids to the lions and they can bring the virus home to the vulnerable we missed first time! Lets pretend we are putting kids first!
It’s going to be chaos.
Please stop using my hard earned license fee to amplify this right wing drivel. Get rid of bbcpapers and stop pandering to MurdochDynasty Embarrassing FFS.
The national priority should have been to ensure that easing lockdown was safe. The UK government has cared more about the economic effect rather than the physical effect from the very start.

All safe anyway rona near dead vaccine is near
Sack any teachers not back at their desks by September 4th.
'...because picking a fight with the bolshy teachers is what my advisors tells me goes down well with my feeble, ill-informed followers'
let 'em babies have fun.... 🤦♀️
