Fall of 67% may be result of people avoiding hospitals owing to coronavirus fearsd

Doctors are warning of “a ticking timebomb” of untreated illness because of coronavirus fears after the latest figures showed the lowest number of people in at least a decade sought A&E care in April.

Many are presenting to GP late with symptoms of MI, CVA, sepsis, bowel obstruction 😔

Obviously some people who should go to A&E aren’t going because they are worried about catching coronavirus but a lot aren’t going that would have before as they suddenly realise what they have isn’t an emergency and are phoning 111 or GP!!!

Having a lot of trouble figuring the logic in this. People delaying referring for conditions will not cause a drop in A&E, probably the reverse.

...plus two million operations cancelled - and the govt still insist they were well prepared to cope...

People are afraid of catching the virus and staying away from hospitals. Same in the U.S. people are dying from strokes and heart attacks because they don’t want to go to the hospital. Your headlines are scaring the living daylights out of everyone. Congrats!

I can’t help but read this & think of Priti Patel & her fall in shop lifting comment! No doubt some people are staying away from A&E when they shouldn’t but seriously. The ticking time bomb is in all the ongoing hospital care that has been put on hold.

Wait till you add cancer patients who have not had treatment or not diagnosed it will dwarf the 30000 corona deaths

Less accidents, perhaps? People staying home means less driving, less outdoor activities, less sports, less parties. All of them have a % of accident-related trips to the Emergency Rooms.

Coronavirus: A&E visits fall to record low as people stay away during outbreakBREAKING: NHS England says A&E attendances at hospitals in England were down 57% in April compared with the same month last year. More on this breaking story: The hospital figures came down so low because when you went to a and e you got turned way. You couldn't get past doors. So people wasnt keeping way they wouldn't see you. Guess that not so many people really need to go anyway wasting the NHS time. You’re trying to make this out as a bad thing for the government! If people weren’t attending then they didn’t really need to use it. I doubt people really suffering would have done so in silence. Shows how many people abuse the system!
