Commuters will face disruption until at least the end of service on Tuesday after a landslide blocked the railway between Coventry and Rugby . Earth fell on to the tracks on Sunday afternoon causing cancellations and diversions on routes between Birmingham and London Euston . West Midlands Railway (WMR) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) operated buses between Coventry and Northampton.

Avanti West Coast said its southbound services on the route had been diverted and may be subject to cancellations and delays. Both LNR and Avanti said while northbound train services could still operate, a reduced timetable or short-notice delays could be expected. Engineers were working to cut back and clear vegetation from the railway embankment so workers could understand the scale of the damage and check there was no risk of further landslips, Network Rail said. Network Rail said it recommended passengers looking at National Rail Enquiries to see what journeys would be available
