The Queensland government has withdrawn a proposal that would ban the reporting of unproven corruption allegations during election campaigns, after a backlash from media outlets and the journalists’ union.

I lived in Brisbane during the end of the Bjelke-Petersen regime. The widespread acceptance of corruption that I experienced among Queenslanders convinced me that crooked is a way of life up there, regardless of which party is in power.
