The four sources familiar with the Russian President spoke to the news agency Reuters. Three of the sources said Putin had expressed frustration to a small group of advisers about what he views as Western-backed attempts to hinder negotiations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's decision to rule out talks.

He, like the others cited in this story, spoke on condition of anonymity given the matter's sensitivity. Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian President had repeatedly made clear Russia was open to ceasefire discussions, saying the country did not want “eternal war.”Despite recent rumours about a possible ceasefire, the West has so far rejected previous suggestions of halting the conflict.
