School pupils at all East Ayrshire high schools will face an £80 fine if they are caught throwing rubbish. The scheme was signed off by councillors following a recent trial programme at Loudoun Academy in Galston.
"The litter in schools initiative is a no brainer and will make a difference. We have tried and tested it.", just two months after she founded the party to focus on the issues of waste and littering. They will be responsible for overseeing the roll-out of the fixed penalty litter scheme in all secondary schools.
Well there you are then! I thought all those little darlings taking days off telling us all we are ruining the world we’re all perfect. Now you’re saying that these little shits are the problem.
Good they might not do it again, parents need to teach their children to bring it home
The family should be involved... This is a behaviour learnt AT HOME. Or is this an act of rebellion in a 'no hope' society?
So they should. Little bastards.
My two lads know not to drop litter and take it home or put it in a bin. Sad to say people not just kids don’t give a crap and just think it’s ok to drop litter
Good
Or just give them kit to pick it up for an area?
About time
So what does Farage have to say about this then I wonder BBC‽
Bring back the cane! Real discipline! Respect for law and society! Forget human rights let us have human responsibility!
Excellent idea. Especially the picking up litter bit. Respect the Environment.
Good, probably the same kids that skipped school in the name of the environment.
Tbf that bin is over flowing!! Most of it has obviously fallen out, maybe you should’ve used another photo to make your point? 🙄
No wifi would stop them. Daddy paying a fine won’t do it
Less of the generic images of litter please... I know what it looks like. Incidentally, the first image is familiar to me living on the South Coast as it shows the aftermath of a gull attack on an overflowing, unemptied street bin.
lufc_callum £80 fine
Hope they are emptying the bins …….
As a teacher in a secondary school I applaud the idea. I spend all my breaks asking to pick up rubbish and don’t get me wrong many pick it up when you tell them but others: “ it is not mine”!! Sick of that answer!
There is an epidemic of litter dropping! There must be consequences🙁
I walk past a few schools on my commute, they litter like no-ones business.
Good, oh who will enforce it though.
Thought students main focus was environment?
Good make it a grand
Looks like bin is overflowing to me. Maybe council should consider emptying it a bit more often justsaying
Littering gets my goat. It needs to be stopped. But fining children means the parents are punished rather than the culprits.
Never mind fines, they should be made to clear it up and do some street cleaning and picking up other people’s litter.
And we send our plastic where?
Good it’s about accountability and the youth of today are so disrespectful not all some just don’t care how this will be enforced I’m not sure past experiences tell me some would square up to you rather than admit it’s unacceptable behaviour and pick it up 🤔
Are these the same kids that want to save the planet?🙄
So parents will be fined how the hell can pupils get £80
Isn't the bin full and over flowing? Looks like the council should get there own act together and do what there paid for...
Councils emptying bins regularly would be a good start. Totally agree that kids need to be educated about litter from an early age.
Ffs where have we come in life when kids have not been taught to put stuff in bins.
Laughable!!!
Well rip my bank account
Why not get AndyBurnhamGM to get the people of Gt Manchester to pay for it when the kids drop litter. He wants us to pay for free bus travel for 16-18 year olds so why not the litter they drop. Or you could just look after your own children and take responsibility.
Stupid policy. Make them do little picks instead.
WRONG School children should face a week of picking up litter for dropping litter.
Good, if they are having a Friday off every month to protest climate change they can look after the environment or face a fine.
Taught my little ones to always hand me the wrapper from a little candy, and they always complied. Still conscientious 40 years later!
Young boy broke off piece of plastic pipe & proceeded to chuck pieces down onto the beach in Swansea last week, I thought all kids were worried about plastic in the sea?
pc bollocks what else they ment to do with there rubbish burn it? bbc suggestin are kids start smokin now fumin
besides, there should be road cleaners all day in cities emptying overfilled bags ect.government has its part to play too, but they care more about bloody expenses and ladder climbing to do real work.
about fucking time. or until they blame someone else like they normally do. can save the planet but to bastard lazy to pick up rubbish.
Good. Let have some responsive parenting.
Good.
Easy money
Till one of them gets ‘offended’ and the authorities shit themselves... 😉
So parents get fined, let's get it straight.
You'll like this binwars
I guess they deserve some social service too.
Are the same kids protesting about climate change?
Perhaps if the parents were fined they might give their kids a clip round the ear and tell them to pick their litter up.
Good
Not all those saving the planet types surely 🧐
You mean Parents?
Take away their phones - that'll get the message across real quick.
Good. About time the little brats were dealt with. May stop them growing up to be the big brats we have in this country!
How do they pay the fine if they are kids . They have no income
Well done
Dropping litter is anti-social enough, but so is failing to clear litter bins more frequently on busy days. Council leaders should already know which days need better service, but there's a requirement to remove heads from orifices.
Where does a child get £80 ?
They don’t have any money
Make them clean their Rubbish!
Ghana has a lot of catching up to do!!!
Great news
Need the council to spend money and empty the bins, instead of increasing the tax and claiming expenses.....
Agree !!! they want climate change then play apart of it .
The Council are giving us fines for minor misdemeanours and accidental infringements, raising funds as a back door tax but it’s for our own good and nothing to do with greed!
I thought they were all seriously concerned about climate change. Although I guess it’s not so important during their lunchtime.. where’s Greta when you need her? .. Call Emma .. tell her to get on a plane.. quickly
Where are they going to get the money from? Oh yeah the parents take the rack. Any thing to get money as the government are to busy wasting money on other useless things.
GOOD 👍 should be anyone who drops litter
You mean the parents of the pupils
Are these the same kids who take time out of school protesting about climate change? Just saying.
Are these the same environmental warriors who bunked off school because the world is ending?
But they will only understand discipline and how dare we instill discipline to the youth. Ill discipline is rearing it ugly head after years of being unchecked. Ever wonder why teachers are leaving in drones?
Good!
good ...i hate seeing rubbish all over the floor ..some parents need to teach there kids to put rubbidh in the bin ..i taught my daughter from a young age ..i told her it attracts rats and is harmful to wildlife and planet .
About bloody time!
What a load of Rubbish! Parents will have to pick up the bill!
Brilliant idea, who will enforce it
Good - they will soon learn what bins are for.
What about this lot the Climate Change hippies left in their wake?!
They'd have to have some solid proof before I'd pay
No just close all fast food shops at lunch times. You would bot believe how many are open in the village! Disgusting
A school local to me employs a person to pick up litter the kids drop over lunchtime. 😳
What about emptying these bins more regularly or is that too sensible!
Educate them first. Then consider punishment, litter picking good deterrent.
Should be £800 and then shoot them!
Good! 😡
Where's a kid getting £80 from?
Looks like the bin could be emptied more often, or more added. Don't just blame the kids. Where should they put it?
Unless it's a climate change demo
And which legal authority can enforce the fine?
You mean their parents face £80 fine?
perhaps if the bin was emptied occasionally the little cherubs might use it..!!!
Fair enough. Dropping litter is dreadful, very scummy.
Having to fine kids to deter them dropping litter? It should be natural to kids to not do this anyway! Were they brought up or dragged up!?
Never going to happen. We used to make kids pick up litter, but that ended due to health and safety issues... The burden of proof on this makes a 'conviction' unlikely - kids love to frame each other over litter drops.
£80 eh. Great..... whose gonna pay it
Good 😬
You actually mean parents will have to pay them,we were always told if there wasn't a bin take it home to dispose of.
Yeah... and what school pupil earns £80....
Good
All for this....litter dropping kids become the littering adults. Respecting the environment starts locally
Where is the school council, eco council? You have to embed values in children, punishing the parents won’t work! That’s where they get their values. It’s re education that’s required. The young need to educate their parents. Not saying it’s easy, but the above is waste of time.
The picture shows the bin is rammed full. Whos to blame for the excessive waste.
The bloody bin is full, it's not the pupils fault.
When caught they should have to do litter picks after school for a month as well as the fine.
GOOD!
Ok. Don’t drop litter then.
Looks like the bins full to me
Council need to empty that bin. (Probably a stock photo.)
Why not just use existing laws ?
I saw a woman throw carelessly a small wrapper on the floor today, only small, like one, small starburst sweet size. I'm not a big nature, green or environmentalist advocate, but it's just basic instinctive good human conduct, and witnessing said woman annoyed me a lot.
Well don't drop litter then. That'll help save the planet.
Judging by the pic it seems the council need to keep on top of emptying bins.
Since saving the planet for the future is a major theme, it would be helpful if children could be taught not to drop litter, but fines are absurd. Maybe litter duty instead!
A trial should start on Ullet Road Liverpool outside Belereve School tommartincrone . Bloody kids littering everyday
/ Councils must accept some if the blame for littering due to not enough Bins are ever provided ?
Drive through rubbish thrown from cars is a menace in rural areas! The food company should put the vehicle registration number on the packages?!?
Good! The little shits have no respect for anyone but themselves and their phones!
It also might help if the containers were emptied more often. The garbage can in that picture is over flowing maybe that's why there is garbage on the ground all around it.
Good! Let’s carry that into the adult world.
Should be publicly flogged that’d teach them better than their parents paying a fine
I wish i had that much wedge as a kid
Good. Litter is a huge problem all over the world, and setting an example for it as negative behaviour that should and will be punished is the right way to go about it.
Aren't we relying on kids to save the planet? We're all doomed. 😕
Probably the same kids who were bunking off school to go to the recent ExtinctionRebellion protests about the state of the environment.
Sounds like a plan.
School pupils are well known for their abundance of wealth. You gonna issue teenagers with CCJs now?
They’ll just get their parents to pay. So how will that teach them a lesson!
Good 👍
