Great swathes of the solar system should be preserved as official “space wilderness” to protect planets, moons and other heavenly bodies from rampant mining and other forms of industrial exploitation, scientists say.

Eh... no reason for this. They say it's to conserve resources but we're going to use up resources from somewhere anyways. Best plan is to minimize how much we need rather than accessibility... and to make sure we don't do something stupid that sends an asteroid our way.

Surely the economics would go someway to stopping a gold rush? Once a large supply of Iron Ore for example comes on to the market, prices would plummet. These would likely mostly be used in space, and not brought back to 🌎 due to cost. Commentators here should read the article.
