Leading private schools have challenged plans to widen access to the most selective universities in England, warning they could lead to discrimination against young people “on the basis of the class they were born into”.
Although a minority overall, private school pupils still take a disproportionate number of Oxford and Cambridge places despite being no better academically. Reducing established privilege is not discrimination.
Unlike now where it’s a total meritocracy and nobody faces extra and inordinate obstacles on the basis of the class they were bo——- oh
Couldn’t these private schools just follow suit and increase the diversity in their ranks too? They’re meant to be “charities”, right?!
Oh the irony. Bless them.
instead of criticising these plans, maybe they should question why these inequalities exist in the first place and help erase them but that’s not gonna benefit them so what’s the point
good to see the 'top private schools' finally understanding some of the dynamics of class discrimination ! way to go with the self-awareness, it is exactly this that has lined your pockets for centuries !
“Leading private schools have challenged plans to widen access to the most selective universities in England, warning they could lead to discrimination against young people “on the basis of the class they were born into”’” they said without any hint of irony.
If they're concerned about bullying why not address the bullying issue in their schools, rather than exclude people based on 'class'. Sounds more like the head teachers approve of bullying.
Naturally. They wouldn’t know what poor students are about. Selfish bastards. Keep the entitlement going 💩
You make it sound like they will be given residence preference, is that true?
He makes a very good point about cutting numbers of international students, our university places shouldn’t be for sale to wealthy foreigners! A small proportion yes, but there are too many
What the article doesn’t focus on: the complicated process of getting fees covered, and the demotivating aspect of going into debt. I was lucky enough to attend university at a time when tuition was free for students from low income communities,
cant have the lower classes polluting the universities
Is this a joke or what
