back to 1863 is set to fetch up to £12,000 when it goes under the hammer tomorrow.

It is among the highlights of an online auction of banknotes at Dix Noonan Webb – international coins, medals, banknotes and jewellery specialists based in Mayfair,Dating from December 28, 1863, the fiver is probably the finest quality early black and white note the catalogue has ever seen. He told Metro.co.uk: ‘The usual story is that they are literally kept by somebody and forgotten about and they just get discovered years and years later. But to find them in this condition is mind boggling.‘They must have gone to the bank, taken out some money, put it away and it was never disturbed for all those years.’
