VAR,Premiership,Managers

A fiery statement has been launched by the Celtic boss but the other gaffers have been far from happy previously.

He has stepped forward and called for its removal but what do other Premiership managers think of VAR ?

"You have to give it every chance. But if you are asking me now, I'd go back to pure football. We know that when humans are involved you will have mistakes. We all make mistakes. But I'd rather accept that than what we see at the moment." He explained: “If I was Nick Montgomery then I would be very unhappy about the penalty that we got because Richard wasn’t in a position to score. But the rules are that it’s a penalty. Believe me, I would have been going crazy. The question we have to ask ourselves is ‘Is VAR making the game better?’. Every team in the Premiership is investing money into it when we could be buying players with it.

"I'm sick to death of this VAR. It was our turn this week, there will likely be someone else in Scotland today who has suffered as well. An experienced referee dealt with the incident. Yet it goes all the way to them and they put pressure on him to look at it differently. It's not a red card. "The penalty they get, the initial contact is made by a player blocking our player which VAR should go and look at. I spoke to the referee after and he said that he wasn't shown any images where there was a block so I don't know whether there's a miscommunication or what the process is but ultimately it's failed us today. It's a clear block on our player. It's as simple as that.

“When you can watch it six times and still get it wrong, that’s where the problem is. How can they get that wrong? Was VAR used? I don’t know. We are all standing there claiming for a penalty. Surely VAR has got to check it but who knows? I’m told they’re supposed check every incident that happens inside the box. If they didn’t look at it then that’s even worse and an even bigger worry.

Stuart Kettlewell Shortly after his appointment last term, Kettlewell had his say on VAR, and the Motherwell bosss admitted he wasn't sure how much of his counterparts were totally thrilled. The boss said: "It depends on who you ask. I need to be cautious in what I’m saying, I’m a lover of football and I just want to see consistency, but I think we’ve seen some weeks when it has been a major challenge.
