Coronavirus: More care urged for pregnant BAME patients

NHS England is asking doctors and midwives to provide more checks and support to black, Asian and ethnic-minority pregnant women because of theirBlack mums-to-be are eight times more likely to be admitted to hospital with Covid-19 than white pregnant women.Maternity services remain open and mums-to-be are urged to keep in touch with their midwives to stay safe.Keturah King recently gave birth to a little boy at Homerton University Hospital in Hackney, north-east London.

"When it emerged black people are four times more likely to pass away it was really scary and you're thinking, please don't let it hit our doorstep." "There are probably a multitude of factors contributing to the statistics and in the meantime being able to understand exactly why it's occurring is so important for women and to be aware of the risks, especially when lockdown is easing."that just over half of the pregnant women admitted to hospital with Covid-19 are from a BAME background, even though they account for only a quarter of the births in England and Wales.

If we are put first, it can’t be GOOD wake up my people ✊🏾

Why u make me sick lol

Obviously, everything that ever happens from now on. 🙄

Okay here’s the thing. They’re saying that BAME pregnant women are at a higher risk than white pregnant women. White women don’t matter less. They’re saying they see an issue, a pattern and more care should be taken with those that are at a higher risk. No playing favourites.

BAME? We gotta learn that now? Seriously? Isn't that racist?

Why do you want to genocide White Europeans?

Whatever

two factors here, one will be the regular checkups at hospital, its rife in those places, and again low vit D levels. i just dont understand why its only just trickling out now officially about low vit D in the Bame community, and how it effects the immune system. please take it.

Zzzz

Struggling to see the equality here. Yes 'BAME' people at more risk but surely in a pandemic or any time more care should be urged for all pregnant mothers as pregnancy is risky anyway, or for patients in hospital really.

So why would bame mothers get more support than white mothers? I understand they are more likely to get the virus as they are bame but that’s not a parental thing that’s they shouldnt be getting it in the first place. Vitamin D and occupation, close contact with others to blame.

Do pregnant white women not matter?

I think this man had this idea until HillaryClinton & BarackObama overthrew his govt, & allowed him to be brutally tortured & murdered. Did his new currency idea freak them & the Middle East out? 👇

I’m sure someone mentioned that men are disportionatly killed by Covid. Sorry, correction, men aren’t oppressed, don’t bother ..

Bloody hell. The comments 🙄 we get it. You're sick of hearing about black people. God forbid pregnant women get the care they need eh

MaternityAction campaigning for rights if pregnant women.

The racial segregationists are emboldenened

give it a fucking rest! they went out protesting and now they are having parties on the street trashing police cars! everyone gets the same nhs in this country

Midwives should not and probably have never, treated people by the colour of their skin, until now!!!!!
