Sir Bernard Jenkin, a leading Brexiteer, has poured cold water on the idea that a deal will be announced soon to resolve the issues around the Northern Ireland Protocol."I fear not very close," he responded, saying negotiations are taking place in"very narrow confines".Rishi Sunak is currently speaking with the EU in order to amend the Protocol in such a way that reduces trade friction between Northern Ireland and the rest of Great Britain.
Rishi Sunak is"not going to sell anyone out" over Brexit, a government minister has told Sky News this morning as a deal with the EU edges closer. Speaking to Sky News this morning, veterans minister Johnny Mercer said:"Let's give the prime minister a chance to come out with something right, he's attacking this. "So he's not going to sell anyone out or come up with a solution that's unfair or doesn't deliver on what he thinks is Brexit.
The likelihood of a deal being announced at the end of this week is low, as both the UK and EU negotiating teams want to focus on the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine on Friday. After a week away for recess, PMQs is returning this week. Ministers have recommended NHS workers, police officers, teachers and judges are all given a 3.5% pay rise for the next financial year.
