Parents are being warned about an overseas doctor who is offering a ‘miracle cure’ for autism in the UK. The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into claims that stem-cell injections are being offered to children via the doctor, who is thought to be from Bangladesh.
No ‘cure’ for autism The unnamed doctor is thought to be targeting Asian and Bangladeshi communities after advertising at a conference online or in London. More than one in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK. A spokesperson for Greenwich Council said it had recently been made aware of concerns that ‘an individual claiming to be a doctor plans to visit the UK to offer dangerous, experimental procedures on children with autism’.‘We understand that this person is proposing the transfer of bone marrow and spinal fluid to the brain by injection.
But it aimed to reassure parents that there was ‘no evidence’ that anyone has been treated in the UK yet.
