A number of events have been planned in Edinburgh in solidarity with women who feel unsafe in public spaces.

The organiser of a vigil due to take place at the Scottish Parliament on Saturday evening said she felt "let down" by the health secretary's message against gatherings.

"I just can't sit still to be honest seeing what's going on in the news. My story is quite similar to the one of Sarah Everard and yet I'm considered lucky because I was a survivor when I was attacked. It's not right anymore, it's not safe for women on our streets."Flowers have been laid at the site in Kent near where Ms Everard's body was foundThe 33-year-old marketing executive disappeared as she walked home in south London last week.

But during Friday's coronavirus briefing, the health secretary urged people not to hold vigils at present as it risked spreading Covid-19.

Your allowed to attend a funeral but not a vigil. Baffled I am.

Sorry I disagree that they should have a vigil although this is a sad moment and understand why they want a vigil, but please respect those who lost there life through COVID hence why there shouldn’t be gathering.

Personally can't see the point, another pointless death, it's just going to be used as a political football, do the right thing, stay at home, it will not make any difference,

People need to grieve. Lockdown has made socialising impossible but people need to process this. Vigils might not be appropriate in lockdown but surely something can be arranged to let people process this intense emotion.

Welcome to policestate UK where the police drag elderly women off the street for protesting about NHS pay. The idea that I am 'at risk' because of that or a vigil is ludicrous now and when in a few weeks shops are opening. Democracy and freedom are more important now.

What if they clap on a bridge and invite Cressida Duck? Or pull a statue down?

They have no shame

Omg , how embarrassing is the ‘ real time ‘ BBC news announcer’s handling of ‘ breaking news ‘ re charges in this case ....

Fuck the virus. This is such a tragedy can we stop being obsessed with covid for one second

Unbelievable how the tragic death of this young woman, is now spurning hundreds of people to mix and therefore kill even more people !!

Or they’ll rape and kill you

Fine them like others are fined.

Watch it guys, the cops up there have a habit of coming into your house and beating you up..

Police Scotland should mind their own business and allow an exemption to the blanket legislature for socially distanced vigils. Expressing public solidarity, sympathy and anger over a woman's life being unjustly cut short years to soon should not be a crime. Why police grief?

The same Police Scotland who did essentially fuck all about the rampaging Rangers fans?

So blm protest was allowed but not to mourn a women who’s been murdered

Maybe the Police could just escort those wanting to attend. Isn't that the new rule for large gatherings without permission during a pandemic?

And rightly so. Just a shame they done nothing last summer...
