Essex Police is investigating claims that an officer ordered a driver to remove a"B******* to Brexit" sign from his car.
Peter Cook says he was a passenger in the Mini Cooper - which had the anti-Brexit message emblazoned across it - when it was pulled over on the M25 near Brentwood on Sunday. Footage posted on Twitter purportedly shows the officer standing next to the vehicle as a man - believed to be the driver - crouches down to remove the phrase.
In the video, Mr Cook is heard describing the officer as"very aggressive" and claims the officer told him he could not even say the word"b*******" because"ladies may be present, even though they're not"."Here we have the long arm of the law being used to shut down any form of protest." Mr Cook said the officer had claimed that displaying"B******* to Brexit" on the car was a public order offence, according to The New European.
It would have been very ironic if he had a Mini with the Union flag on the roof 🤣 remoanersloseagain
And rightly so
Say no more
.is he Lib Dem?, as that’s there slogan
Good
Good well done officer now all the saddos who put these badges on their children at protests should be arrested too.
What a joke of a country, going to get fines in the post soon for swearing online 😂🤦♂️
How?
Someone else wanting their 15 minutes of fame & some compensation 🙈
Why? In 1977 the sex pistols won their case declaring that “Bollocks” was not offensive... I would not have removed them.
Should have put cobblers to BREXIT
Trotty08205699 🤔🤔🤔?
Well if the bloke thought the Copper was doing something illegal he should of refused. Wheres your balls man ?
Bollocks to the EU
Think the officer could be in trouble with this one. Bollocks is not a word that will cause offence in English Law. The F word and C word are two words in law that are deemed offensive.
Good could be a public order offence
Indeed, bollocks to Brexit. Absolutely.
real_dug As a Brexit supporter I find this a quite worrying. People are entitled to their opinions, even if I don't agree with them.
he drives a mini not much going for him then
real_dug It's about time they turned their attention to the left. Let's see how they like been harassed over words!🤔
It is about time that the authority will uphold some decency in society. Freedom of speech has well and truly been abused for too long. The boundary has been pushed further and further. Rudeness has become acceptable and the norm.
ljwnorth .. and people say that comparisons with 1930s' Germany are exaggerated.
Scotbyname The passenger stated, ‘He accepts some people may be offended by it’... there you go Disorderly Behaviour (Sec.5 Public Order Act). EssexPoliceUK should be proud of their officer upholding the law!
Just imagine the police vehicle displaying 'Oi bollocks-brain put your seatbelt on', would that be okay-yah?
DavidMercerSky Why did you censor the word if it's not offensive?
He should of shown some bollocks and refused to remove the lettering.
What happened to free speech,I allways stick up for the police but come on who gives a shit one way or the other 50 per of the UK don't no what is all about anyway...☹️🇬🇧
This is a waste of police time. That officer should be concentrating on catching criminals.
Oh, we all know that most of these cheers for the police is only because the officer does what they like - tomorrow when they get a ticket for speeding the opinion about the police will change very, very quickly indeed.
Why don’t they do the same with those nauseating “baby on board” signs, or worse still “princess”, that serve no purpose? Or (oh I’m started now) football fans pissing on rival fan’s jerseys . . . They’re real crimes (at least against humanity).
The fact this article headline has edited the word would suggest it’s liable to cause offence to some. Which seems to prove the point really.
Why’s it illegal to show these signs?
Good job Officer 🇬🇧
For the same reason you’ve had to asterisk the word. 🤦♂️
What's the B*******?
Did nothing about the bus and was highlighted to the police also. Although tbf the police are more inconsistent than VAR 🤔?
BOLLOCKS
Must of been a quiet shift.
I don’t care what anyone says and everyone’s initialed to their opinions but this is fucking brilliant 🤣🤣🤣 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Why? Is there now no freedom of speech in our country?
What a load of B******$🤬
Spot on!
It’s the fucking law. Ffs CrumbsCrunchy
Good.
Just gonna leave this here....
It is a public order offence, and the officer was right to get him to remove it, why should we be subject to offensive words all the time, its bad enough overhearing people swearing all the time whilst on their mobile phones in public..
Hats off the the police. LITTLE CHILDREN should not drive cars. Totally inappropriate to have language like that displayed. Wonder what people who think this is ok if advertising started using the same language. Little children should stay at home. Probably doesn't know brexit..
YCMIU...is that how police resources are now being prioritised?
Well done
Dreadful. Hope he is disciplined. What price free speech?
Why?
Some top comments on here about how it’s acceptable for kids to read etc and we’re in 2019 blah blah blah, top parenting! By no means a prude but this is why society is what it is today. All those mongs that had no discipline but unfortunately active sperm have now reached 2019.
Good, the vote was cast, we are out
Nice to see EssexPoliceUK with time on their hands... 🙄
Nice to see the OB concentrating on serious crime that's being committed there ffs pc fucking plod
Bollocks
Nothing offensive about the word, as established by the Sex Pistols court case in 1977.
Why didn't they take the 300.5000 of the bus
Never Mind The Bollocks here’s PC stupid.
Shame they don’t adopt the same standards for Muslim extremists insighting hatred on public streets. chickens
(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he— (b)displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening or abusive], within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.
Good, about time the nazi left get treated in the same manner they treat conservatives.
Police are not supposed to be involved in politics at all. This is a complete abuse of authority based on the officer’s subjective politics views. He doesn’t deserve to be a public servant.
Is the police officer a remainer by any chance?
He should be able to put anything he wants on his car, after all MPs go into EU Parliament with bollocks to Brexit t-shirts on, that's broadcast to the whole world!
Well, when it's a blatant swear with no attempt to censor it, it's fair game, obviously you're going to be told to remove it. It's absolutely nothing to do with the Anti-Brexit message, it's the fact it goes against Public Order...
Ridiculous
Think the officer has dropped a ..lock” here
The state of the World and the Police are worried about the word 'Bollocks' ! Seriously F**ked up!
It's police state time again!
It's hate speech. Those who are rightly complaining this person's freedom of speech has been clamped down on now see the problem with the hate speech law.
Police are forbidden legally to get involved in politics because they are crown servants. The officer was breaking the law himself.
If you take out the unnecessary profanity there would have been no problem. Standards of behaviour have fallen to this level!
These snowflakes are so easily offended.
The country needs 20,000 more sticker removers
The policeman need telling off for not having the car towed and crushed other than that might fine job that man
Don't they just love power
👍
Good.
Where are our Freedom of Speech champions when we need them? (Last seen when that tit TommyRobinson was getting banged up or every time KatieHopkins opens her marf!)
It offends so officer correct end of...
Disgusting word for children to see - never acceptable to introduce it to the mainstream by the anti-democrats libantidemocrats
See what kinda twat he is by the car he’s driving
Why ! Have they got nothing else better to do !
Please explain how pimlicoplumbers are allowed to have a hoarding on the approach to Waterloo station saying exactly the same thing, and not be forced to remove it?
That is definitely inappropriate to driving about in that.
A sacking offence?
