A police horse died at a football game on Easter Monday after being impaled on a metal pole in a"tragic accident".
Morecambe, a member of Lancashire Constabulary's mounted branch, was pronounced dead on Seasiders Way following Blackpool's home game with near-neighbours Fleetwood Town. The horse suffered a serious injury to his stomach after it fell onto the metal pole at around 5.20pm.His rider was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston with injuries, which are understood to have been caused after they fell into the side of a horsebox after Morecambe was injured.This photo of Morecambe, next to a statue of Eric Morecambe in Lancashire town Morecambe, was taken just days ago
Lancashire Constabulary said there were"no suspicious circumstances" surrounding Morecambe's death, which it described as a"tragic accident". Chief inspector Sue Bushell, of the force's mounted branch, said:"We are all completely devastated by the loss of Morecambe in such tragic circumstances.
