💬 A spokeswoman for the Hillsborough Law Now campaign said: 'The apology, while welcome, makes no reference to a change in legislation which would put an immediate stop to families battling against the state'

The National Police Chiefs Council and the College of Policing have finally published a joint response to a 2017 report about the experiences of the Hillsborough families.after 97 Liverpool supporters were unlawfully killed as a result of a crush at a football match against Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989.

“What we’re talking about is cultural change and cultural change takes a long time, but my goodness we have started.” He added that police recruits would study the 2017 report. “We have long been campaigning for a Public Authority Bill, often referred to as the Hillsborough Law, which would create a legal duty of candour on public authorities and officials to tell the truth and proactively co-operate with official investigations and inquiries.”In 2016, an inquest jury ruled that the supporters had been, made 25 recommendations – with 11 of them directly concerning policing.

Mr Marsh added: “We have been robust as possible and it’s for Parliament to make any legislation that they feel is necessary.”She said: “As police leaders, we must strive to increase accountability and transparency within our justice system and enhance the support for victims of crime, especially those left bereft by public disasters, wherever possible.

Hillsborough disaster: Police to respond to Bishop's reportBishop James Jones has criticised the fact the government is yet to respond to his 2017 report. They didn't go on this long about WW2. Five years is a long time to respond to a report. How much longer are the government going to take before they respond too?
