Police arrest suspect after mother stabbed to death pushing pram in Bradford

Police were called to Westgate at the junction with Drewton Road at 3.21pm on Saturday 6 April A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Aylesbury on suspicion of the murder of a mother who was stabbed to death while pushing her baby in a pram in Bradford, West Yorkshire Police said.

Kulsuma Akter, 27, was stabbed in the neck in the Westgate area of Bradford city centre at the Drewton Road junction at 3.21pm on Saturday.Following a three-day manhunt for the suspect, the 25-year-old man was arrested onThe man, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, was taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday morning, police said.It comes after a 23-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in Cheshire. He remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Enquiry Team, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a mother has lost her life in the most horrific of circumstances. “We understand that this has caused a considerable amount of concern in the local community. Local Neighbourhood Policing teams are patrolling the area conducting reassurance to the community.Following the attack, West Yorkshire Police said it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the force having contact with the victim before her death.

Police also thanked members of the public for their assistance in widely sharing appeals for information relating to the attack.
