PM says Huawei leak matter 'closed'

Opposition MPs have said there should be an investigation into whether the Official Secrets Act had been breached.

He said ministers should"shut up" after National Security Council and cabinet meetings, appearing to echo Mr Williamson's wordsLidington: Ministers should 'shut up' outside cabinetDisclosure of official information relating to security and intelligence by a"Crown servant" - including government ministers - can be illegal.Being found guilty of this carries a sentence ranging from a fine to two years in prison.

But Conservative MP Sir Desmond Swayne argued the process had not been fair, saying:"Natural justice requires that the evidence is produced so that [Mr Williamson's] reputation can be salvaged or utterly destroyed, doesn't it?"For the prime minister's allies, it will show that she is, despite the political turmoil, still strong enough to move some of her ministers around - to hire and fire.

An inquiry into the leak began after the Daily Telegraph reported on the council's confidential discussions - including warnings from several cabinet members about possible risks to national security over a deal with Huawei.

People need to know the full story, just sacking a scapegoat can’t be the answer to state security. If he’s is guilty he should be tried and/or if not then the culprits to be brought to book.

Finding him guilty due to there being 'compelling evidence suggesting your responsibility' and ' No other credible version ... has been identified', is NOT proof. Since when are 'suggestions' & lack of possible evidence enough to ruin a career?

You cannot close a matter of such national importance just like that. This has totally soiled his name, no one will employ him and if what he says is true and he didn't leak then he needs redress. If she is right then he needs to go to court.
