This is a misleading tag. He did not apologise for the party. He apologised for the 'anger and hurt' caused by the party (i.e. they got found out)

It was a non-apology apology. He did not say he was sorry for what he did.

pm aide apologises only after getting busted, this seems a pattern within Tory party. Ignore, lie, lie a bit more, fling in a dead cat story, lie then realise only when they are banged to rights , then mea culpa with made up a plausible excuse then repeat

Just out of interest, in pre covid days, how often did ordinary people's workplaces have social gatherings and parties? Tory party culture seems to be the rule, not the exception.

Easier to apologize than get permission first.
