The road was closed at around 10.40am on Sunday (March 31) and remains shut this afternoon

advised motorists to avoid the area if they can, with diversions being put in place. An eye-witness described the scene of the incident, warning people to"avoid the area". The statement reads:"A huge stretch of Clifton Boulevard is closed, all the way from the roundabout at QMC under the bridge at the roundabout to past the A6005.

"Lots of police officers present, but not sure what has happened. People need to avoid the area." A spokesperson for the police said:"Please be advised Clifton Boulevard is currently closed in both directions near the QMC due to a serious road traffic collision."The road is expected to be closed for some time. Diversions are in place. Please avoid the area if you can.

National Highways has issued advice to any motorists who may be impacted by the closure. A spokesperson for National Highways says:"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.website and travel apps, or via our regional twitter feed. Our 24/7 contact centre team is also available to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000.
