Photographer Liz Johnson Artur on 30 years of capturing black life: via Dazed

Photographer Liz Johnson Artur first began taking pictures of black communities after visiting New York for the first time in the mid-80s. Born in Bulgaria to Russian-Ghanaian parents, the photographer grew up a “product of migration”: “I had never really been around black communities,” she says, “so for me, going was my first experience of being able to dive into them.

One reason I started doing these pictures is I didn’t see them anywhere . I saw glamour shots, sports shots, and horror shots, but I didn’t see regular life – people just being represented for who they are. I guess that’s how I got into it, and that’s why I’m still doing it.

Photographer saw 'elephants screaming in agony' at wildlife reserveSnapper Norman Watson said he was horrified to see guides whipping the gentle giants with five-foot bamboo canes and beating them at the Bandhavgarh nature reserve in India This is infuriating. I cannot understand how evil ppl can be to inflict upon innocent animals such suffering and cruelty. I will never understand the complete lack of compassion some people have for these beautiful elephants. Actually for all living creatures, saddens me. Humans the basic reason for any catastrophe!
