The size of the fee Manchester City will pay for Kalvin Phillips has raised some eyebrows MCFC LUFC

Kalvin Phillips’ transfer from Leeds to Man City has been branded a nightmare, while the size of the fee has also raised some eyebrows.

One person who has witnessed his rise first-hand, former Leeds Women star Lucy Ward, admits she can only be happy for the player and believes he can take that next step at the Etihad Stadium. “He’s done incredibly well. Marcelo Bielsa obviously took him that step further in terms of the position that he played and I think that Pep Guardiola will take him further again with the way that he plays in that system. He’s the sort of player that Man City will benefit from.

“Now, he’s had an injury-plagued season. If you go back to last summer, I think someone would have, quite openly, paid £60m plus for him but he’s been injured for most of the season.

Rice offers miles more for his club and country than Phillips, who by the way has returned from long term injury and offered minimal influence to the points Leeds needed. Hope Rice has done enough to leapfrog Phillips in the England World Cup squad pursuit of a starting place.

Leeds have said they had an offer of 65m from PSG but out of respect to Kalvin and for everything he has done for Leeds the club granted his wishes and let him make the move, Kalvin will reference this in his first interview DarrenBent laura_woodsy

Rice isn’t worth 150 mill. West Ham just don’t need to sell him so they can ask for whatever they want.

It shouldn't be questioned, rice is above any English midfielder and proves this time and time again.

Phillips is ok rice is excellent

Well KP is average at best so... the price tag is justified. 🤷‍♂️

West Ham, without Rice, are at most top 12 team. With Rice, they’re pushing top 6. The money received from the league for these positions over a 5 year term/contract and you get the value of the player. He’s worth £100m+ to West Ham. It’s really pretty simple.

If they pay more the are ruining football now they pay suitable price it’s questioned 🤷🏿‍♂️

Surprised they paid that low, thought Leeds would take ANY buyer to the cleaners, let alone City; especially being English with international caps. Would the price have to do with his recent injuries perhaps? They paid £41m for Ake from relegated Bournemouth, something must be up

Rice will if sold for for no were near 150 most likely more than 45 but it won’t be 150 that’s not even Haaland money

Questioned by who?.... And what's it got to do with anyone? It's like buying art, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Moreover it's subjective.. everyone likes and looks for different things. Same with players and transfer fees.

Better player costs more not hard

You can ask for any price you want but if the buyer is only willing to pay so much you either accept or reject. The player then has a decision to make , they either stay or ask to leave can't force player to go somewhere they don't want to go no mater how much extra cash offered

Why is it a nightmare Man City got a steal and like house prices an England player at 45 million means rice is worth about the same 😂

Overrated........ But that's a typical price for an English player rice is twice the player Phillips is .

The player only wanted to go to Man City, Leeds didn't have much of an option.. But you had rather push your bullshit for likes 🤡🙄

Another player who goes for the easy option to be a cog in the wheel, instead of being a legend at a smaller club.

There is more to ManCity transfer that meets the eye, the figure actually quoted is not what is really paid. FFP should look closely.

A valuation is only what the owner values their asset as. Is Rice worth £150m? No. But he is so important to West Ham that they put this figure on him to stop him being poached, and if he is then they are compensated hugely. Even they know he isn't a £150m player.

He could’ve gone somewhere else for more, but he wanted to work under Pep and due to his service to Leeds, they let him go to City. still some integrity in football!

Overpaid for a bang average player. He's gonna play League cup and Mickey mouse European games, nothing more

Fernandinho replacement but better

And now this.

If it was Liverpool who signed him for whatever fee Man City paid, everyone would be applauding saying that's great business. Now some are complaining about the fee
