Concerns have been raised about the safety of children within a Perth nursery after it was revealed the facility has failed to make improvements one year after a critical report.
ABC Nursery director, Alan Morgan said a number of “unprecedented challenges” such as the retirement of a long-standing manager and the departure of several members of staff has resulted in the nursery facing difficulties in the past year. In September 2023 the Care Inspectorate carried out a further inspection and the “weak” and “unsatisfactory” gradings improved to “adequate”.The failings raised concerns among councillors during PKC’s executive sub-committee of learning and families committee, which met to examine the latest inspection report and the progress made since.
The Perth City South councillor added: “This is the best result for the children rather than it being closed down. I do welcome the fact that progress is being made but also that we have the reassurance we are not letting it go here.” Ms Carr added: “Even during this short period of three weeks, we’re much more confident that the setting and the children are receiving those experiences, the spaces and interactions we would expect in any setting that provides high quality early learning and childcare.”
He added: “Our new manager, who joined us in June, brought a fresh perspective from their background as a primary school teacher. However, the steep learning curve of the childcare sector and the unfortunate flooding incident in October added to the complexity of their role.
