Persimmon says it wants to be a force for change in the industry through a greater commitment to customer satisfaction.

Persimmon has faced a customer backlash over poor build quality and long delays in fixing problems to the satisfaction of customersHouse builder Persimmon says buyers will be able to hold back thousands of pounds worth of the price of a home so that faults can be fixed, in an industry first.

The initiative comes after it promised to improve customer satisfaction levels after being dogged by complaints about poor build quality. Persimmon last month said it was making changes after the departure of chief executive Jeff Fairburn over pay awards worth £75m - boosted by bumper profits since the start of the government's flagship Help to Buy scheme. But the milestone was revealed against a backdrop of uncertainty for the firm following a report by The Times that the government was considering stripping Persimmon of its right to sell properties under Help To Buy because of poor satisfaction levels.

I remember when persimmon was created. I was working Redrow sites at the time. Redrow actually requested from contractors, that only the subbies with low work quality were to be sent to Persimmon sites. They wanted shoddiness from day one. Reason- keep the Redrow hallmark

PersimmonHomes Pointless to withhold a % pre key release. Most issues only become apparent once you move in. Our full home survey raised our issues pre-purchase yet it took years to resolve our issues. Also NHBC needs to be impartial & not funded by house builders Complicit

You build trust by not treating customers like shit.

Building nice houses with no shortcuts and bad workmanship would be a good start.

The poor build quality and lack of customer support is exactly why we walked away from a house just a week before taking ownership. I had zero faith in them to correct some major things before we moved in let alone afterwards.

Dodgy builder. Try paying your contractors fair rates so we don't get shoddy houses that fall apart - and your contractors using apprentices and firing experienced workers, and skimping on materials so they use stuff they wouldn't build their own houses with.

Persimmon homebuyers can withhold money until faults fixedContracts will state that 1.5% of property value can be held back until problems resolved I think all new house owners should do the same. Once builders leave, it is very difficult to get them back to fix problems. Important to note NHBC are hopeless and their Certificate is worthless. Run an article on the NHBC. That would be eye opening. I wouldn't buy one of their homes. For the money they're asking you can get a solid double brick house cheaper.
