The annual TV licence will increase to £169.50 from April 1, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced. This is the first time the fee will increase since April 2021 and is the equivalent of 6.6 per cent.
This means the annual fee could drop to £79.50 for a colour TV licence and £26.75 for a black and white one. Following the rise next week, the discount would take the fee down to £84.75 for colour TV. People who are 75 years or older who receive Pension Credit could get the licence for free.This also applies if the person's partner living at the same address receives pension credit.
