BBC One viewers have now witnessed the heartbreaking moment Lawrence Franks, 84, called emergency services and said: ‘I’ve killed my wife.’ As the call handler assures the man that help is on the way, Mr Franks adds: ‘There’s a little girl’s party next door, don’t use sirens and spoil it.Manchester Crown Court heard how it was the act of a man who ‘genuinely believed’ he was performing an ‘act of mercy’ for his wife who had been diagnosed with dementia a decade earlier.When Mrs Franks had been diagnosed her ‘utterly devoted’ husband promised she would never go in a care home.
