Boris Johnson is to make his first statement to Parliament since being fined by police for breaking lockdown rules.

Boris Johnson is set to apologise for breaking his own lockdown laws when he makes his first statement to MPs since being fined by police.

He also accused the PM of using the conflict in Ukraine as a "shield" to keep his job, adding that he finds such a tactic "pretty offensive".Sir Keir predicted: "He will try an apology, and he will immediately then go into excuses". "Unless Conservative MPs can look at their consciences and vote the right way, we are not going to get the sort of result that we should get."

Under government rules, ministers are expected to resign for knowingly misleading MPs - and correct the record as soon as possible if they inadvertently tell Parliament something false. Labour sources say options under consideration include forcing a vote on whether he misled Parliament, or referring him to a parliamentary committee to investigate.

'It came off my leg,' claimed the apocryphal batsman trying to avoid being given out to a catch. To which the equally apocryphal bowler always says, 'Then tha must have a wooden leg.' Does this shed any light on the analogy?

So is he lbw or caught being, he never said 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So why didnt the interviewer then ask 'so Boris is OUT then... he has to walk then right?'

Mogg please start taking your meds! 😵‍💫

ZaltzCricket MrNishKumar In case you missed this is…

nicholaswatt Poor old Jacob_Rees_Mogg doesn't appear to know the reality behind why there is a Labour chair of the privileges committee... Ignorance of Parliamentary law is inexcusable, oh wait... ToryLies

Smog is disgusting.

GetPRDone

In an open letter, Chris Bryant has already said he would recuse himself from any enquiry into whether the PM misled the House re 'Partygate'. In the event, Bernard Jenkins (Conservative) would chair. Source:

Surely if he's accepted the referee's decision he should be out?

Has anyone explained to him, that once the third umpire makes a decision that a batter is out that it is out. Using his analogy the batter thinks they are not out, the third umpire has said out. Yet the batter remains at the crease.

Pathetic journalism from nicholaswatt - just let him drone on and on unchallenged. 'Neutrality' is not good journalism. A heavy dose of reality is needed in our political classes.

It’s more like being clean bowled and the umpire (the electorate) saying your clearly out and the batsman, backed by his team mates just simply refuses to leave.

He's a criminal, the idea that Bryant (who has needlessly recused himself) is unfit to adjudicate is beyond contempt, the Tories hold every mechanism for controlling and reviewing BorisJohnson and his Criminal acts, hour by hour they refuse to do so. ToryCriminalsUnfitToGovern

The privileges committee is a distinguished body ... but it's mostly composed of tory politicians. They haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over the last couple of years. That is something to bear in mind.

The literal Ashes reanimated into vaguely humanoid form

The analogy isn't quite as strong as Mogg thinks. The upshot would be the batter being dismissed. Exactly what should have happened to the lying, gaslighting PM.

LeeJBBC He should be a deadpan stand-up. I couldn’t have kept a straight face.

Top Tory gaslighting from Rees Mogg, conveniently forgetting that the Privilege Committee is always chaired by an opposition MP and doing his best to make it look like something underhand is going on! NeverTrustATory

There’s a lot of people in prison who wished the third umpire (aka the police) had interpreted the rules differently. They’d have a better excuse as unlike Johnson they didn’t make the rules.

I mean, by that same tortured analogy, the batsman has to walk. Furious with the interviewer for missing that tap in of a response

Classic Mogg. In a sense, the analogy does work, mind you it requires trivializing the entire matter, or 'fluff' as Mogg likes to call it.

My advice is we start bowling bouncers at his swede.

Duncan20212 😂👆🇬🇧🤡

DRS? Isn’t that Formula 1?

Bell endicus monstrositus

In this scenario, Johnson is not just a batsman saying 'I didn't know I was lbw', he's a batsman saying 'I didn't know that being lbw meant I was out'. Not someone querying an lbw decision, but someone who doesn't understand the lbw rule. A rule which he introduced.

What an utter plum!?.. There is NO COMPARISON to anything for this!?!.. None!!.. Shameless deflection to someone who has been caught bang to rights… Plus what’s more embarrassing is that he was done by a questionnaire!?!.. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s got f—k all to do with cricket. He lied and broke the rules. He needs to go as does the whole party.

That's that sorted then...

Rees Mogg impugning the integrity of Chris Bryant!(& a committee with a Tory majority!) The same Rees Mogg who lied to the Queen! The same Rees Mogg who suggested the Grenfell dead were stupid! That food & shoes would be cheaper post Brexit. Have we reached peak bonkers yet?

It’s his own law he should have recognised it was broken straight away.

Not a flicker of irony….

It is always chaired by an opposition MP, as the disgusting Mogg well knows.

J R-M is judging others by his own lamentably low standards.

There’s yer reason why the uk is fucked, time to bolt, Scotland.

Ignorantia juris neminem excusat

Dear Jacob_Rees_Mogg and Conservatives, I understand. It’s like when I THOUGHT I was urinating in the urinal (when actual fact I was jobbyin’ in the urinal) but because I THOUGHT I was urinating then therefore, I was. Easy as that. As you were BorisJohnson 🤗.

Only 28,000 voted for him but he goes on like he's the soul of Britain

So according to Jacob_Rees_Mogg's cricket analogy, Boris Johnson is out and should be walking back to the pavilion! Bye bye Johnson.

Drivel.

Your tweet was quoted in an article by thepoke

We need to rid our country of absolute clowns like this one after Johnson gets shafted 🤞🤔

lewis_goodall Are people going to vote for this tosser at next GE

That is literally how the committee system works. It's like saying, 'We *could* have an election ... but a lot of the candidates and even voters would be supporters of the Labour Party. I'd bear that in mind.' I'm bearing all *this* in mind, all right

And 4/7 of the committee are Tories. Only of them are Labour. All Tories make me so mad 😡

It’s more like a batsman knowingly edging the ball and being caught behind but not walking and laughing when the umpire misses it and laughing to the press and public about it and then disingenuously apologising six months later when finally being forced to admit it.

He broke the law. If he gets away with this which other law does he intend to break. North-east Somerset- stop deferring to the posh man in the big house who cares nothing about you or your life.

JRM is corrupt and not fit for public office.

Fascists never admit their wrong doing.

I feel sorry for Rees Moggs kids with this thing as their role model. He shouldn't be in British politics, he is all that's wrong with Britain, same as most of this Conservative government. It's like Trumps America but worse.

lewis_goodall You mean It might reach a correct conclusion as the chair is not a Tory? The chair does not have the final say, and your party has the majority in the committee. So perhaps your fear is that Tory members will accept the truth.

He should be PM

Lord Snooty there, explaining that political bias is such a ghastly thing, dontcha know...

a fake. The man hides behind the image he has created and is ultimately no better than any other scam artist. Wouldn't trust him with a penny.

why would anyone trust this man, on anything? He's a scam artist, just packaged differently.

I'm sure the person who is that Labour party politician will be entirely happy with the implication that they don't do their work fairly and properly.

Cricketers didn’t write the rules of the game, nor lied that they didn’t understand them. Tory deliberate deflection is dishonest. ToryCorruption Partygate BorisJohnsonResign

Moggy mate, read the rules... Standing order 122B.8.f: 'No Member may be a candidate for the chair of the Committee of Public Accounts or the Committee on Standards unless his party is that of the official Opposition.' ToryIncompetence

Could be worse it could be chaired by a law breaker who openly lies to parliament and has no qualms about shitting on the ministerial code.

nicholaswatt you are helping keep a completely untrustworthy person in power by not calling the dishonesty out - the Ukraine disaster is no reason to keep a scoundrel in office and please stop quoting this false line of defence as if it is 'impartial'

So I'm confused...was the PM out LBW, or did the ball actually pitch outside of leg stump? Or did he lie to everyone and is being propped up by a bunch of corrupt tories bleeding the uk people for every penny they can?

I think you'd find that Bojo has actually been...

It's NOT cricket!

The cricket analogy is all well and good, but when it is established that the batsman *was* out, he doesn’t get to stay on anyway with a mealy mouthed apology, regardless of what he originally thought.

And it would be less partial were it chaired by you JacobReesMogg7 ? Virtually all your pronouncements have been discredited. You patronise from this position. Extraordinary.

Politics is not a game. Politicians need to realise this.

lewis_goodall I’m still processing the cricket analogy… either way he was OUT, so not the best metaphor for Boris 🙈😂🙈

Parliament is a distinguished organisation but its ran by a criminal charlatan, I'd bear that in mind.

nicholaswatt What utter offensive hogwash.

So our PM needs the equivalent of the DRS technology to tell whether he is in a group of people outside his household or not. More BS that not one voter will be convinced by.

But has a Tory majority

lewis_goodall Plumb

lewis_goodall Notwithstanding the many thousands of pounds spent on this man's education he is still as thick as two short planks.

Even after being caught mid wicket, he’s still standing at the crease.

The arrogance of the man. Who on earth can support a party in which he has a home?

Chaired by a Labour Party politician. It’s called checks and balances my right honourable friend

He’s basically saying the chair can’t be trusted to do things honestly, it’s actually a self own by the haunted pencil, as he knows he couldn’t be honest

God, Rees Mogg really is the absolute end.

lewis_goodall Strange, how a pm who’s Government set the rules, A Pm who spelt those rules out to the nation, changed his narrative at every New revelation on the parties, can't be said to have lied! without that type of statement having to be withdrawn!

And if the batsman was deliberately cheating ?

Wait until JRM finds out that the majority of MPs within that same committee are from his own party... 👀

Vermin.

Cricket …PM clearly has no balls and is playing a sticky wicket then.

lewis_goodall Disgusting man.

What happens if said batsman created the rules, was obviously bowled out but refused to leave the crease for months on end, claiming he wasn't out despite all the evidence to the contrary?

lewis_goodall Go.

A completely insane argument. That batsman may of course appeal against an lbw decision thinking he's not out, but if he's found lbw, that means he is lbw whether he originally believed so or not.

No bat involved, impact in line and knocking out middle. No umpire’s call. Three clear reds. I’d say something about finger’s up but in Boris’ case I’m not sure whose up what. Anyway he should no longer be in the middle. Out.

lewis_goodall Oh FFS. Cricket? CRICKET? What an imbecile’

Cricketers walk when the third umpire calls them out. Terrible analogy. He knows that, it’s more lies.

lewis_goodall You mean : “Conservative Party Poltician, Cabinet member Jacob Rees-Mogg”?

So...more likely to be reliable than a tory chaired committee? Thanks Jakey, will bear that in mind!

lewis_goodall I believe that is what is called projection

lewis_goodall Someone needs to tell Rees Mogg the guy was bowled stumps everywhere

lewis_goodall So Jacob_Rees_Mogg is impugning the honesty of RhonddaBryant because he’s a Labour MP? Utterly disgusting and then making out that it’s comparable to a game of cricket is insulting.

lewis_goodall Aaaaaggggghhhhhhhh

lewis_goodall The sheer arrogance of his position as born to rule, which makes him untouchable by his accounts.

lewis_goodall Jacob_Rees_Mogg would no doubt rather the committee was chaired by a sycophantic Tory Party politician. For balance & fairness.

Probably best NOT to mention the '1 in 10' Tory MPs 'On The Take', from Russian Big Money 'laundered' through BonZo's 'Drinking Partner'!!

Time for some real consequences. ResignJohnson

BBC FAKE NEWS DONT TRUST

Sack him and bring in Sean dyche

Johnson has strung out this situation to breaking point. Guilty as charged. He must resign from politics altogether as he is a stain on our democracy.
