Set across acres of parkland there is even a golf course

An award-winning park with a free zoo and plenty of activities is around a half an hour drive from Liverpool.

Warrington Borough Council bought Walton Hall and Gardens in 1941 during World War II, opening the hall to officers and troops. After that the council opened the gardens to the public in 1945. Now it's one of the most popular attractions in the region, with approximately 330,000 visitors a year.READ MORE: Cosy café that serves up 'the best fry up breakfast in Merseyside'

Families can also see red squirrels playing inside purpose-built runs and cages, as part of a nationwide breeding programme. After a picnic on the grounds, families could also enjoy a woodland walk, or fun in the playground.
