Parents suffocated girl, 17, with plastic bag for 'wearing short-sleeved top'

A teenage girl was murdered by her parents in front of her siblings for wearing a top that showed off her arms.

The next day police were alerted when Shafilea wasn’t seen at school – but her parents stated she had run away.Now one of the teenager’s close family friends, Shanin Munir, has helped reveal the extent of the abuse she went through before her death. As she got older, she adopted a more Western way of living, taking an interest in fashion and wearing make-up and false nails.Her parents tried to curb her ‘rebellious’ nature and one year arranged a holiday to Pakistan, where they intended to marry her off to a cousin.After awaking in Pakistan, the teenager was so terrified about what would happen she drank bleach in a suicide attempt, severely burning her throat and oesophagus.

She described seeing Shafilea’s eyes going wide and her legs kicking frantically before she urinated on the sofa in the struggle.After seeing the case in the media, family friend Shahin decided to come forward as she had received letters from Shafilea’s other sister talking about the night of the murder.Advertisement

Poor poor kid. Born to utter utter c*nts. Feel so sorry for children born to parents who don't care. Awful lives through no fault of their own. Truly tragic. 😪

I have always remember this dead girl. And the bravery of those who brought the murdering parents to justice. The only way for such families is forced integration and no hiding and why schools & friends parents are often the best reporting defence for defenceless female victims

How on earth could an airport and airline not notice an unconscious girl being dragged onto the plane?

I dont think anyone can comprehend how twisted and sick some parents minds truly are That for the sake of ‘honour’ & ‘what people think’ they would go to the extent of killing their own child... Fuck what people think. Everyone has the right to live & be happy!! This is so sad!!
