Tafida Raqeeb: 'Law should be revisited', say parents

Specialists at the Royal London Hospital believe Tafida Raqeeb has no chance of recovery

The mother of a brain-damaged girl says the law should be amended, after the High Court ruled her daughter could travel abroad to receive treatment. Five-year-old Tafida Raqeeb has been on life support at the Royal London Hospital since suffering a traumatic brain injury in February. Health bosses had tried to block attempts to take her to the Gaslini children's hospital in Genoa, Italy. The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which rules a"child's best interests are paramount" in all healthcare decisions, was ratified in 2000.Speaking on the BBC Today programme, she called for a"clear law that says if there is a reputable hospital prepared to treat a child then there should be no blocking".

UK specialists had argued any further treatment of Tafida, who suffered a brain haemorrhage, would be futile.

Yes, if it cant talk or wipe its own arse, just kill it. Don't mess around with this, withdrawal of treatment crap!

This poor child has no chance of recovery, and an exceptionally limited quality of life. Let nature takes its course by withdrawing the life supportive treatment.

these parents have had to fight for their child's life, and they shouldn't have had to the child was in no pain, and sometimes a doctor's diagnosis is wrong - the parents have every right to try something else, it's the right all other patients have

And what nobody is mentioning is how subscription to a faith overruled the law...Yet again.

It is disgusting that doctors are able to try to force parents to let their children die.

If travelling doesn't harm the child and you have the money then i don't see the problem in trying all you can

Religion has no place in medical decisions. If the family want to pay to take their child abroad then let them. As long as it doesn’t cost the NHS anything. This is the U.K so live by our laws or leave

the sad thing about the nhs is a pound spent here is a pound less somewhere else. every decision has a human cost elsewhere.

Begum,that name sounds familiar.

The parents said: only God could take the decision to end her life. Didn't God already decide that? Without the intervention of doctors and medical science she would already be dead.

Law is their to protect the child. A parent is not medically qualified yet thinks they know more then doctors.
