c_drosten,virologist at Charité Berlin, has just warned about downplaying risk of COVID19 to children. It’s lower, but not absent.Risk of infection is similar.Risk of new clusters developing from schools is high. Rather than penalising parents, we should provide alternatives.

Unless you can find and administer a vaccine before September, my little brothers are going to stay home. We have online learning now soooo

Could not will

Bucket of water with a wig on top. Boris needs to Chuck in some wall paper paste to thicken him up a little.

Send them in. No don't send them in. Fine them No don't fine them Austerity? What austerity?

Irresponsible but typical of this Tory party who aim to kill as many sick and vulnerable people including pensioners courtesy of mismanaging coronavirus.

simonmaginn Notice it's ' could' come on twitter do your stuff , it's testing the water . Say no to fining parents for keeping their children safe schoolreopeninguk safetyatschool

Just get your kids back to school FFS

Beat em back into line, we dont mess about, we're tough on the causes of crime. 💪👊

The answer to everything seems to be a fine

If all parents just said 'no, not paying' what exactly could they do about it? Clue: nothing.

Despicable. They have not even announced anything specific about how the schools will reopen. All we know is that social distancing will be scrapped. Yet they are already intimidating and threatening parents - after I have been educating my child for four months with zero support

There should be conditions: number of cases in the area less than 100, number of deaths 0, schools being tested weekly. Parents and kids temperature checked at the gate. Hold govt to account to meet these conditions

Brilliant. School attendance officers (myself included) will be thrilled at becoming the target of increased misdirected parental anger. I am struggling to see how it would be helpful to fine parents for putting the health (& potentially lives) of their families first.

And will the PM and Minister's be charged with manslaughter if it is found that sending a child back to school results in a covid death?

Is that school Eton starting in September?

So they’re happy to fine parents for not wanting to risk themselves and their children catching this virus, but they aren’t prepared to put the work in to make the schools safe...? The level of incompetence in this government is just overwhelming.

Can we fine the government for completely ballsing up this whole pandemic?

Moron🤡

The government keep telling us we are unreasonable for following their advice: Rees-Mogg with Grenfell and Cummings with his Barnard Castle trip. And now when parents want to act on the whole reasonably in September, they could be fined.

This is appalling, that a government, in the middle of a pandemic, would threaten parents for caring about the safety of their children. If no fines are paid do they then place parents in prison what then happens to the children, maybe placing them in cages is the next step!!

🖕🏾

Good .

I think there is a legal responsibility for parents to keep their children from harm . Could but not would , whats your next move Williamson .

Section 7 education act 1996, get your kids back in school, don’t let your hysteria condemn them to a short dismal life

No no no. Bad move. UK is more effed up than US. Get an alternate tech-based plan soon. Get that under-used royal family involved and come up with a safe way to educate your kids. Hurry!

September how about tomorrow?

Jog on!

Good luck with that. I’m all for social distancing, masks, whatever it takes. But you cannot and will not force me to send my kids anywhere I don’t feel is safe for them. this won’t stand.

Could but probably won't.

Parents can, of course, withdraw their children from school in the UK for any reason and re-enter them at a later date. You should be prepared to show that you can make alternate arrangements for your child's education (e.g. a distance learning programme):

They've had several months of being able to be taught from home. Why can't that system be looked at instead of building a single purpose building? For group activities other locations can be rented for the purpose of social interactions. Let's progress educational systems.

Thats fine provided you GUARANTEE their safety and accept that legal claims can be made against yourself AND the government if god forbid a child is killed or seriously injured. If you're going to threaten parents you best do your jobs properly pal!

Typical Tories. Screw the ones that can least afford it. viletories

Yep. Punish parents for putting the welfare of their children first, just like Ministers should be punished when leaking state secrets, and chief advisors should be punished for ignoring government guidelines... Oh. Hang on.

*Could be fined* not will be fined.
