Find the right place and it will keep your kids entertained for hours - something we all need with the six-week school holidays to fill. But there's one place that parents rave about more than anywhere and that's Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan.
Situated down the path past the High Ropes and at the bottom of the Hall Driveway , you can escape from the busy upper park areas. It has picnic benches and some open space for balls and other games. The 18-hole course offers something the whole family can enjoy and lets you play through the dinosaur, past the lighthouse, under Humpty Dumpty and around Captain Jack Sparrow.
There's everything from Alexanders Coffee Shop, a dog-friendly, family-run café selling a range of snacks and drinks including frappes and paninis, to the popular Graze in The Park café and All You Knead Bakery. The courtyard is also home to the award-winning bar and brewery Two Left Feet Tap, A.M. Flowers florist and Haigh Stables Gallery, which was first established at Haigh Hall in 1993 by a group of artists and craft workers.
Explore the park Finally there's lots to enjoy by simply having a wander around the park. From enjoying the nature inside the walled Walker Gardens, where families often settle down for a picnic, to strolling through the woods, there's no shortage of spaces to explore.Facilities One of the main reasons families tell us they prefer this park is because of the facilities.
