Oxford launches first black scholarship scheme

Oxford has previously been criticisedMs Hamilton said the scheme forms part of a programme she will fund in the United States to get more black students into university.

She said:"'I just really want someone who didn't or wouldn't have had the opportunity to go to this university to do so. "I want them to be truly nurtured and able to focus on themselves, instead of worrying about the things, that perhaps, I have had to worry about in the past - like how you are going to pay your rent, while trying to get an education.

What about the poverty stricken whit children in Scotland? Since were giving races extra privileges......

Shouldn't this just say 'disadvanted students'? What about disadvantaged 'White or other coloured students' that live in out diverse land.

I am old enough to remember when Oxford and Cambridge used to be proper universities. Although Cambridge’s big contribution to my memory was a Soviet spy ring (Burgess, Maclean, Cairncross, Blunt, etc).

Didnt universities have to open up female only scholarship programmes to males recently due to anti discrimination laws. It will be interesting to see if this is similarly affected.

My boy was told by his school he couldn’t go to the local uni for an engineering day they had organised as It was only for girls. Being a white fella has many disadvantages.
