Over half of English people gambled last year, survey finds

Health bosses have raised the alarm about the prevalence of gambling after official figures found more than half of people aged 16 or older in England gambled at some point during 2018.

So what? 56% includes those who donate to good causes by doing the Lottery once or twice a week and those many who enjoy the odd flutter within their means. What % of the 56% are truly problem gamblers. Attaching prominence to puritanical stuff like this does the Guardian down.

This NHS health report shows that gambling prevalence is down (again) as is the incidence of problem gambling. Only 15% of people gambled online.

On-line gambling is mostly run from offshore locations, the ease of gambling on phones is really damaging. The TV adverts need to be banned
