The exhausted head of a school in England wonders how much more he can take

Three weeks into the autumn term and we are all wrecked. I look around at my leadership team in our Monday morning meeting at 7.45am. Everyone is drained from poor sleep, working over the weekend and managing colleagues’ worries. Some are snappy and then quickly apologise, each frustrated with their own raw nerves.

Tonally, this feels wrong. EVERYTHING is “exhausting”, “Not engaging with ‘these’ parents. Teachers ‘having’ to deal with scared Year 7’s? What? This article does nothing for this profession except perpetuate stereotypes a lot of parents already hold!

I wish people would find it in themselves to be more supportive to teachers instead of behaving like total arseholes. They haven’t caused any of this and they don’t deserve abuse.

This is unsustainable and unsafe. Teachers are at the frontline of govt incompetence.

Wanna say, good job, thanks for sharing. Instead I say, draining and not appreciated by many. Appreciated by me. Thank u and we all should take our part in that/ it is telling about all of us

Sobering as fuck. Still imagine the comments will be full of clowns telling teachers to toughen up.

Look, there’s no plan & no resources have been made available, what are these whining lefties moaning about?

I said it before and will repeat it. The education system needs to change, and we cannot have our children living in fear. If there is a lockdown, the pupils need to work from home'' online .///

I read that to the tune of The 12 days of Christmas. Just me?

Teachers have become lazy, weak and pathetic. probably because they spend most of their time reading your trashy rag and have lost all critical thinking ability

Greetings, I am Wasfi from Jordan, researcher in the field of water diplomacy, and I would like to publish an article on water diplomacy in the journal The Guardian. I hope for my support, as water diplomacy and cooperation solve conflicts between countries. + My daughter works for Oracle. Message there is the same. Many former office workers will never return to a remote office. Economies relying on leasing office space will be reduced—and will feel the effects.
