Calls for the Academy to diversify more female film makers and more people of colour in the films it champions are getting louder.

This year the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite began trending again after just one non-white actor was recognised - south Londoner Cynthia Erivo who got a best actress nod for Harriet.

The Farewell director Lulu Wang and her leading actress Awkwafina are also among those snubbed by the Academy."Depending on who the members are they're going to be watching different films," the movie-maker explained.

Stop using the race and gender argument to justify making crap movies or for poor performances, up your game and try harder

If you applied this 'logic' to airline pilots, you wouldn't board the plane.

What the hell does skin color have to do with whether a film is great or not? Aren’t the Oscars just supposed to be about who’s best, or do we need special catagories based upon skin tone? Yuck.

So it's just about winning awards and not making movies.

Movies are watched and loved because of entertainment, for education or even artistic content but not because of the colour of the people in it!

look at black and other minorities percentage of the population and then look at the percentage of which they are in the movies, you will see minorities are over represented in media. this whole minorities are underrepresented is BS.

Who cares if they stop handing out meaningless accolades congratulating themselves maybe people will stop moaning or make a few affirmative action categories. Do people still watch these shows?🤢

More race baiting from sky and the left wing establishment. How about focus on making good movies not thinking about someones skin colour.

More race-baiting from the establishment 🙄 ‘Post-Weinstein’? Was he a racist? Why the dubious link?

While I completely agree, there ARE more white directors/writers/actors, etc. THAT is the problem. Not the nominations. There should be more diverse pictures. I do stand with that. But it's not all the Academy's fault. They've hated on all people.

Then people of colour as she puts it need to start making successful films .. getting sick of all the diversity in race and sexual orientation in award shows

The film will win IF is is good enough....... BEST FILM means EXACTLY that.... NOT 2nd BEST or 2nd RATE.....

Jog on and stop using the race card whoever makes the best movies deserves the award.

How about an awards ceremony that just recognises the best talent and movies of the last year? ...oh, wait.

Yawn

So they win for their skin colour: interesting.

Why? Talent best film clues are in the titles of the awards

It should champion giving accolades to tha best of anyone no matter what color or Ethnicity. Stop trying to level playing fields. The real problem with oscars and the like is it’s fixed corrupt and cliquey. It’s who you know that governs the outcome. It stinks 💩

After all, I've championed females of color in my fiction thriller stories.

There is only one way to end this endless debate and that is quotas, a minimum fixed percentage of awards should be given to people of colour annually. This should be set in stone.

What does the “post-Weinstein” climate have to do with hiring more black actors?

I’m confused what Weinstein had to do with choosing white nominees? Is this just a virtue signalling soup ? Throw everything in and top it off with a bit of MeToo ?

How Brad Pitt's 30-year Hollywood allure finally has him on the brink of Oscars gloryAfter a three-decade career, the 56-year-old actor remains a unifying fixture, an A-list movie star who brings joy to many, writes Emily Yahr He threatened Weinstein told him never touch Gwyneth Paltrow again. The only real man in Hollywood thats why he's loved It's amazing how actors like Pitt and Clooney aged incredibly right up until their early 50's and looked 20yrs+ younger - then it just drops off a cliff and suddenly they age 20yrs in the next 5. I understand the 'why' on that thanks to longevity research, it all makes sense.
